Discovering Korea Through My First Drama, Ju-mong
Greetings to all my koreans, andd fellow hivian's.i welcome you all to my blog for this prompt. It's another week with another wonderful prompt from @kcontest. Thinking about my first impression on Korean, i have to think deep on wjay got my attention on Korean. It wasn't food, because i didn't know how to prepare Korean food, neither did i have who will prepare it for me. It wasn't music as well because i'm not the type that listen to music like that, but when the third impression, i was like yes, Drama is what got my impression and the first Korean movie that got my impression then was a drama called Jumong
I still remember vividly how interesting and stumbling on the movie, for being the first time. Seing the tools used by the actor's then with the epic costumes, the fierce sword fights, and also the unfamiliar, but captivating language really pulled me in. I wasn't even minding the language speaking in the drama, even though i didn't hear it, but with the help of subtitle, i was able to cope and move along with the drama.
And to tell you the truth, At that moment of me watching the drama, I belief that Korean to me was all about warriors, kings, and ancient traditions. That was my thought back then. My first impression was honestly a bit dramatic. While watching the drama then, when i was seeing horses, Armor and palace. I thought Korean is a place where everyone rode horses, wore armor, and then live in palace. I never belief it was just a drama. Back then i had no clue about modern korea, no K-Pop clue, no kimchi clue as their food. Just the word of Jumong shaping my imagination.
So over time, my understanding started changing little by little, the more i explore, the more i realized that Korea wasn't just about history dramas. When i venture into Korean drama very well, then i realized Korean dramas is very interesting. From the vibrant storytelling in modern K- dramas, also the energy of K-Pop, and to even see Korea food pop up in a friend house. Then i realized that Korean slowly unfolded into something bigger than i first imagined.
Looking back now, i just laugh myself, especially when i remember the dramas i displayed when watching Jumong back then. But sincere it was Jumong that opened the doorway. Today i don't joke with anything that has to do with Korea, be it the food, k-pop music or drama, because i now see korea as a creativity, resilience and not just history.Even their cultural influence has now spread across the world.
Today, i never belief that one historical drama will open the door to such a wide appreciation. That is from Jumong to binge watching modern Korean dramas. It's being a fun journey, but i'm glad i'm happily exploring more.
