My Success, Not Yours: What Success Means to Me.

I am excited to participate in this week’s community contest. It's been interesting doing so. Here is my take on the topic.

Success means different things for different people. What one sees as an achievement might be a stepping stone for another or rather that one’s success or achievement can mean nothing to another. In this case, success does not have a universal definition. However, there are some indices can one can point to to know whether one is successful or not. These indices might be difficult to understand for an external person or a third party. In most cases, one does not need a third party or an external person to give approval of one’s success. In a typical school system, some students would be happy just to pass a course with a ‘D’ grade. Meanwhile, some will fall sick for not getting a ‘B’ instead of an ‘A’. To the former, that’s success for him and should not be reprimanded or looked down on. Therefore, success is best defined by an individual and not by another standing out there to watch.

Another thing to note about success is that it is not static, it is dynamic and it changes from time to time. It is time-bound. As people grow in life, their perspectives and views about certain things change too. This is why I always advise people to celebrate their small wins. As little as it seems. The way this life was conditioned was that people would never be satisfied with achievements and progress. Everything ends in death. This is why, no matter the amount of money earned by a person, he will still continue to look for more money. The same is with success. One success will definitely make room for more to come, so celebrate the little you’ve achieved so far. It might not make sense to others; it does not need to make sense to another. It is necessary to celebrate your little wins because, years to come, looking back at that success might not make sense any longer.

What success means to me

In a nutshell, success to me means the ability to achieve anything in life no matter how insignificant it might be. Everyone has goals and objectives in life, hence, setting up the goals and achieving them one by one is nothing but success to me, and it is worth celebrating.
