I'm so used to calling them seagulls that it didn't occur to me that some gulls don't live in the sea. I would see them in Ontario where there is no sea, but there are many great lakes where they hang out.
They are scavengers and they can find food everywhere. It is typical view to see them in the fields as well as near fast food shops.
