My response to the @Indiaunited Contest - Theme: What Are the Good and Bad Things About Hive?

It's good to have such thought-provoking questions come up for the platform, because when we discuss about them it creates opportunity to improve. I have been here for 8.5 years and have seen many changes. I normally do not like to categorize my experience in the good and bad buckets and also for another reason that nothing is constant. What may seem to be good now can change any time and become bad.

The good parts about Hive

• Freedom to work on my own terms. I consider it as my job and I work with that mindset. Since its job and a daily affair for me, I need to daily give some time to it. Choosing at what time to work is the freedom that I get over here. I am not bound to start and finish my work on a given time, and I can take a break whenever I want.

• Networking is something I enjoy here. I find people from all parts of the world here sharing their knowledge. Sometimes I get to know of things that I would never ever hear from any media.

• Earning money from what I enjoy doing the most, which is writing. When your income is from a source which is also your passion, it makes a lot of difference on your mental health. I can positively say that after so many years also I am enjoying this journey. I used to think that after some years I will stop writing but then now it just keeps going on and on.

The bad parts of Hive

• No steady income, while it gives opportunity to earn still there is no steady income. Even if you earn steady amount of Hive every month then too the income will differ based on the value of Hive. So while it gives opportunity to earn it does not give steady income. In which case it cannot be your solo or major source of income.

• Decentralized yet controlled, here I have mixed opinion. I believe that some governance is required even for a decentralized platform, and at the same time an unbiased governance is important which I fail to see here sometimes.

These are some points that come to my mind in the good and bad category when I think of it. As I mentioned, for me everything is an experience and I do not generalize in the good and bad category. Hive is a good alternative source of income and building some wealth over a period of time. How much one wants to get committed to it is an individual's choice.
