To my friend Antonio./ Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Antonio is my friend. At 77, he has a clearer mind than mine and is a delight to talk to, especially over coffee on the terrace of his house.

"Look, I'll tell you something," he said the last time we saw each other, "the National Capitol is the most beautiful in the world. Take pictures of it, it's well worth it." Those words stuck in my head. It's true that it's one of the most photographed buildings on the island, but I wanted to please my friend.

The happy coincidence was that, as I left the house, it started to rain. The first thing I thought of was a puddle that usually forms in one of the nearby corners and reflects the building beautifully.

I walked around several times, looking for elements that I found attractive and different, until the shadow of the statue appeared. That's when I knew I had something.

Most streets lead to it. As the saying goes: all roads lead to Rome, but in this case they lead to the Capitol.

I remember that when I was a child, my dad used to take me there. It looked so tall and enormous that I wanted to live inside it.

Furthermore, it is a point of reference.

Even the reflections that creep into the surrounding buildings do it justice.

Antonio still doesn't know that I took these photos. I want to give them to him as a surprise. I hope he likes them.

Antonio es mi amigo. A sus 77 años tiene una mente más clara que la mía y una conversación que es puro deleite, sobre todo si se da con un café de por medio en la terraza de su casa.

—Mira, te voy a decir algo —me dijo la última vez que nos vimos—: el Capitolio Nacional es el más bonito del mundo. Hazle fotos, que bien lo merece. Aquellas palabras se me quedaron rondando en la cabeza. Es cierto que es uno de los edificios más fotografiados de la isla, pero yo quería complacer a mi amigo.

La feliz coincidencia fue que, al salir de casa, comenzó a llover. Lo primero que pensé fue en un charco que suele formarse en una de las esquinas cercanas y que regala un reflejo precioso del edificio.

Caminé varias veces alrededor, buscando elementos que me resultaran atractivos, distintos, hasta que apareció la sombra de la estatua. Ahí supe que tenía algo.

La mayoría de las calles conducen hasta él. Como dice el dicho: todos los caminos conducen a Roma, pero en este caso conducen al Capitolio.

Recuerdo que, de niño, mi papá me llevaba allí. Lo veía tan alto, tan enorme, que me daban ganas de vivir dentro 😄.

Además, es un punto de referencia.

Incluso los reflejos que se cuelan en los edificios circundantes le hacen justicia.

Antonio todavía no sabe que hice estas fotos. Quiero regalárselas, que sea una sorpresa. Ojalá le gusten.
