It’s complicated to write a post about Cuban women. There is so much strength in their character, so much resilience earned through sweat and tears, that the very act of writing about them puts me against the wall for fear of falling short. But I figured I’d do it the best way I know how: through portraits. In each of them there’s a whole universe of unique beauty, unmatched, with the essence of a warrior you won’t find anywhere else in the world—believe me.

The beauty of Cuban women doesn’t need permission or filters; it simply shows up and shines. Just like that.

It’s a secret blend of resistance, a piercing gaze, and a good strong coffee. Coffee lovers will understand me.

Her walk is firm, confident, and determined, like someone cooking a good ajiaco with all the necessary ingredients—and the ones that aren’t there, she invents.

Between the most dangerous storm that could crash against the Havana seawall and her character, her character always wins.

Music runs in her blood, and the rhythm sticks to her even as she walks.

Her laughter is therapeutic, and even the electric poles straighten up at her Caribbean elegance and festive spirit.

Her inner strength makes no noise, yet it moves mountains and wills.

Ladies and gentlemen, if you’ve never met a Cuban woman, you don’t know what life is. She is the most beautiful being that could exist. She is an entire poem—sometimes sweet, sometimes a hurricane, but always a work of art.

And this is my small tribute to our women. It’s not their official day, but I believe every day belongs to them. Today I wanted to echo that and share my thoughts through these photographs.

Complicado escribir un post sobre la mujer cubana. Hay tanta fuerza en su carácter, tanta resiliencia ganada a sudor y lágrimas que el solo hecho de escribir al respecto me pone contra la pared por el temor a quedarme corto. Pero se me ocurrió hacerlo entonces de la mejor manera que sé, con retratos. En cada uno de ellos hay todo un universo de belleza única, sin igual y con toda una esencia de guerrera que no la vas a encontrar en ninguna otra parte del mundo, creérmelo.

La belleza de la mujer cubana no necesita de un permiso o filtro, ella solamente aparece y brilla. Así nada más.

Es una mezcla secreta de resistencia, mirada penetrante y un buen café fuerte. Los amantes del café me entenderán.

Su paso es firme, seguro, decidido, como quien cocina un buen ajiaco con todos los ingredientes necesarios, y los que no hay los inventa ella.

Entre la más peligrosa de las tormentas que puedan arremeter contra el malecón habanero y su carácter, siempre gana su carácter.

La música la lleva en la sangre, y el ritmo no se le despega ni siquiera a la hora de caminar.

Su risa es terapéutica y hasta los postes eléctricos se enderezan con su elegancia caribeña y sabor a fiesta.

Su fuerza interior no hace ruido, pero sí mueve montañas y voluntades.

Señores, si no conocen a una mujer cubana, no saben lo que es la vida, es el ser más hermoso que pueda existir. Ella es todo un poema, a veces dulce, a veces huracán, pero siempre una obra de arte.

Y hasta aquí mi pequeño homenaje a nuestras mujeres, no es su día especial, reconocido, pero creo que de ella son todos los días, y hoy he querido hacerme eco de ello y compartirles mi parecer con estas fotografías.
