Hello friends, how are you? I hope you are doing well.

Today I am going to tell you what happened to me on Saturday during my usual photography outing. This time I was not alone; I was accompanied by three good friends who were eager to explore one of the neighborhoods of Havana that I had never visited before! We left early to take advantage of the light, and it was really great, we were lucky. Come to think of it, when I take photos alone, I'm much more shy, but when I go with someone else, I feel more comfortable, especially when it comes to talking to people. So I made the most of every moment, and here are the results.

Hola amigos, ¿qué tal? Espero que les vaya muy bien.
Hoy les voy a contar lo que me pasó el sábado en mi habitual salida fotográfica. Esta vez no estuve solo, ¡tuve la compañía de tres buenas amigas que se animaron a recorrer uno de los barrios de La Habana que nunca había visitado! Salimos bien temprano para aprovechar la luz, y la verdad es que estaba genial, suerte que tuvimos. Pensándolo bien cuando hago fotos solo, soy mucho más tímido, pero si voy con alguien más, me desenvuelvo mejor, sobre todo en lo que se refiere a hablar con la gente. Así que aproveché cada momento y aquí tienen el resultado.

One day I want to take photos inside a bus, but it's a big challenge because it can be dangerous. For now, I'm not taking any risks and just taking photos from a distance.

Algún día quiero hacer fotos dentro de un bus, pero es un gran reto porque puede ser peligroso. De momento no me arriesgo y me limito a hacer fotos desde la distancia.

What a surprise to find someone cleaning shoes! You don't see many of them around town anymore. They bring back a lot of memories from when I was a kid, when there was one on almost every corner and it was mandatory to clean your shoes and polish them.

¡Qué sorpresa encontrar a alguien limpiando zapatos! Ya no se ven muchos por la ciudad. Me traen un montón de recuerdos de cuando era niño, cuando casi en cada esquina había uno y era obligatorio limpiar los zapatos y darles brillo.

And then, look, I found what looked like the entrance to a food market or something like that. There wasn't much food, but at least there was plenty of shade.

Y pues mira, encontré como una entrada a un mercado de viandas o algo así. No había muchas viandas, pero al menos había buenas sombras.

I spoke with this gentleman for a while. Juan fought in the Angolan War when Cuba sent soldiers there. He was seriously wounded and even lost an eye, and unfortunately, his wife was also killed. Now he lives with those memories.

Hablé un rato con este señor. Juan luchó en la guerra de Angola cuando Cuba envió soldados allí. Allí fue herido gravemente y hasta perdió un ojo, por desgracia, también asesinaron a su mujer. Ahora vive con esos recuerdos.

Havana is full of churches, all of them dating back to colonial times and hundreds of years old. Out of curiosity, I went into one and couldn't even imagine what this person behind the door was doing, perhaps some kind of ritual.

La Habana está llena de iglesias, todas son de la época colonial y tienen cientos de años. Por curiosidad, entré en una y, ni siquiera me imaginé lo que estaría haciendo esta persona detrás de la puerta, tal vez algún ritual.

I found the name of the street very evocative.

Me pareció muy sugerente el nombre de la calle.

I love photographing large columns, so I was amazed when I saw these inside a church, which, by the way, is the oldest in Havana.

Me encanta fotografiar las grandes columnas por lo que quedé atónito cuando vi estas en el interior de una iglesia, de paso les cuento es la mas antigua de la Habana.
