My Entry To QC Community Weekly Contest #177 [ESP/ENG]

CASTELLANO

No podemos hacer nada.

Hello everyone, I think this week's theme makes us reflect on a recurring topic in human history: the abuse of power. And while there are universally known examples or names that immediately spring to mind (Herod, Nero, Hitler), for instance, we know that this macro-level phenomenon is repeated on a micro level.
It's not just many politicians and high-ranking officials who swell the undesirable list of those who take advantage of their authority and power to abuse and harm those under their influence.
This is repeated in state security forces, among teachers, parents, grandparents, group leaders, and corporate executives. Everywhere there is a hierarchical structure, a high percentage of those at the top will abuse those below them.
I believe this happens because they are evil people, with bad intentions. Bad people will always be looking for opportunities to harm others; it brings them joy, pleasure, and satisfaction. Because they are bad people.
I think it is possible to tell if someone has a tendency to misuse and abuse power. This can be detected very quickly, even in childhood.
We are all frequently in contact with someone weaker, more vulnerable. It could be an ant, a spider, a kitten, a puppy, a baby. And it's easy to notice if a child tends to protect the weaker one or to harm them. That child will grow up, and their tendencies will grow with them. Those who tend toward evil as children will be worse as adults, and those who tend toward good will be better as adults.

I believe that knowing this wouldn't help people choose their political leaders better, because the average person doesn't have good options. To become a candidate, you have to travel a path where those who reach the top have done so by engaging in influence peddling, bribery, flattery, and all sorts of dishonest acts.
Honest people drop out when they see that climbing the ladder requires unethical behavior. Those left in the race to the top are the unscrupulous, and the worst of the worst rise to the top—those capable of betrayal, lies, and any wrongdoing to get there.
If every candidate is "the worst" in their political party, ordinary people have no chance of voting for someone with good feelings and good intentions, because THEY'RE ALL BAD.
We are overcome by helplessness. We can do nothing.

Those wirh traces to abuse power start from childhood. Their attitude and actions speaks to what they will offer in future.
Again, when their environment plays a critical role in peoples upbringing and behaviour. They grow with those experiences which shape their actions.
However, the choice to continue in such action is what matters as they grow.
Power is fine but absolute power without checks and balances intoxicates.
Hi, @cagolistic. You say "...the choice to continue in such action is what matters as they grow.." I completely agree. That can change. A few days ago, I went to buy a can of sardines at the corner store near my house, and the store owner told me he didn't have any, that he only had six left, and that a man had just taken them for his cats. He told me that the man had mentioned having five cats to feed and also feeding some stray kittens because he had been very mean to cats as a child, and now his conscience bothered him, so he tried to do good to the cats he came across.
