A lie is a lie

From a very tender age, our parents would drum it into our ears that lying was bad. Even in church, our teachers would constantly tell us why lying wasn't a good thing and how it never ended well. They'd say how one lie could spiral into many other lies, so much that even in a situation where one does not need to tell a lie, he would. By my assessment, I'd grow to see that you tell a lie and maybe face a consequence, but that's that. But if you go on yelling lies, you stand to lose much more. You may begin to lean towards lying, you could lose trust from others, you may begin to grow into a professional liar, you may even begin to doubt others when they tell you truth cause you've been so into the habit that it becomes difficult to believe truths.

I was surprised the day I heard about the concept of a little white lie as a small, unimportant lie. And I ask, if it was so small and assuredly insignificant, why not just tell the truth? After all, a lie is a lie.

I'm trying to wrap my head around why certain lies may seem necessary to be told, not necessarily for personal benefit but also for the pride and wellbeing of the other person. It could even be to save someone else from distress and danger. And I somehow see why. I do know, of course, that we may tell lies even without knowing, sometimes as a joke, sometimes as a way to avert certain situations and these and more others are what is referred to as little white lies. We've all told a lie at some point or another.

But a lie is a lie. For all that we know and based on Google's definition of it, it's a false statement.

I hate to tell lies, I hate being lied to in equal measure, but sometimes stuff happens. Usually, I don't tell a blunt lie. It may be in a bid to do something with good intention. I've seen I'm so many instances where a lie was told with the hope for a positive outcome, but that very lie led to exploration and brought about negative effects. Just like how parents amd adults shield the truth from young ones and they go on to find out the truth for themselves, sometimes after they've made huge mistakes that vould have been avoided if only they were told the truth. People lie, some for good reason, others not.

Maybe lying with an intent for good isn't all that bad. I still struggle, however, to see it past the name that it is called. If it were called something else but not 'a lie', maybe it would feel better thinking of it. It only makes sense this way and in a form whereby a person doesn't tell one lie to cover up another, on amd on until they're cut in a web of lies.

I hope thar this was interesting to read. Thanks for coming around.
