For My Own Good But On My Own Terms. Contest Number #239

I’ve heard the phrase “It’s for your own good” more times than I can count.

Growing up, it came from adults trying to steer me right. Later, it came from friends or even society’s subtle voice, nudging me toward “safe” choices. But here’s what I’ve learned: only you truly know what’s good for you.

Because only you live inside your skin.
Only you know the silent battles you fight.
Only you carry the full weight of your dreams.

I used to shape my decisions around what would make others proud. I wanted to be “good” the kind of good that made people comfortable. But comfort doesn’t equal purpose. And the older I get, the more I’ve realized that being the leader of your life means making room for your voice, your growth, and yes, your discomfort too.

So… do I like what I have now?

Yes.
Not because everything is perfect, but because everything is real.

I’m building a life where my faith speaks louder than fear.
I’m creating stories that heal and challenge.
I’m raising a daughter not to be “just good,” but to be whole.

I’ve walked through exhaustion, doubt, and heartbreak. I’ve learned to say no, even when it disappoints people. I’ve chosen quiet over applause. And in all of it, I’ve slowly become someone I actually recognise, someone I’m proud of becoming.

As for dreams?

Oh, I still have plenty.

I dream of building a brand that teaches, touches, and transforms.
I dream of helping women and children find their voice.
I dream of telling stories that live longer than trends.
I dream of legacy, not noise.

But above all, I dream of continuing to grow on my own terms.

So yes, maybe it is for my own good.
But this time, I get to define what “good” looks like.
And that’s the kind of freedom I wouldn’t trade for anything.

What about you?
Do you like what you have?
Are you living your life, or the version someone else designed for you?

Because peace lives where purpose and truth meet.
And “good” feels different when it fits your soul.

It's nice to live in your own terms as you wouldn't always compromise your own voice, and that you get to decide what's "good" for you.

That's right, being the leader of your life means giving space to your voice, to what you don't like, we understand this as we grow up, as you say, only you live inside your skin, you know the silent battles you fight and your own dreams
It's great to recognize who you really are, with faith, facing your fears, raising your daughter to become a good person, especially to define for yourself what is good for you
I wish you can fulfill all your dreams, thank you for sharing your experiences,

It takes so much strength to walk through all that and still choose growth, peace, and authenticity and becoming someone you recognize and are proud of and that's real progress.
