My Pink October // Mi Octubre Rosa : Ladies of Hive Contest #258
[ENG]
Hello to all the girls of Hive. Today I would like to participate once again in this weekly contest by @cautiva-30
1️⃣ October, also known as Pink Month, is here. We invite you to take advantage of these days and share your thoughts on menopause and breast cancer, remembering that as women we have an obligation to take the best possible care of ourselves.
October is Pink Month, as you all know, a month that invites us to reflect, to take care of ourselves and, above all, to empathize. And this month connects me with two topics that mark the lives of many women and it is very important to talk about them: menopause and breast cancer.
Currently, my mom is going through menopause. To be honest, I didn't really know how difficult it could be. I had never been very in touch with that situation. One of my grandmothers passed away when I was very young, the other was quite old so I couldn't witness it, and my aunts had a process that was quite imperceptible, so to speak. But one day I began to notice changes in my mom: her mood varied, she complained of sweating, fatigue, dizziness, and although at first I didn't understand what was happening, I knew something wasn't right. During that time some of her chronic ailments worsened and some new ones emerged, which left all of us quite puzzled. The doctors said that each and every one of them was due to menopause. Her excruciating headaches, her problems in bones and joints, and so many other things made me reflect on how difficult it is to be a woman and how much effort it takes to move forward.
And just when I thought I had already learned enough about female processes, life gave me another lesson. Some time ago we moved to the city and I had a neighbor who had breast cancer. I had never seen up close how hard it was to go through something like that. She was a very famous doctor for her extensive knowledge, but it was not enough to detect it in time. She didn’t live a completely normal life, she hardly went out, she had a very strict diet, those who had been her students took care of her directly at home so she could get the required rest. There even came a time when it was difficult for her to breathe, the cancer had spread to her lungs and other parts of her body. She fought the disease for more than 8 years but inevitably faded little by little. Meeting her allowed me to understand how important self-care, check-ups, and knowing your own body are. Today I can say that experience, together with curiosity and love, prepares me to face and better understand these stages in a woman's life.
2️⃣ When we hear the phrase: "Aging is an obligation, maturing is a choice," do you agree? Do you think aging is an obligation? Do you think maturing is optional?
Growing or aging is an obligation, but maturing is an option. Time passes for all of us, there is no way to stop that internal clock. However, what is in our hands is to keep alive that inner girl that we all carry inside. Tell me about it, every time I see a swing I can’t help but jump on it. We must be strong, conscious, mature women… but we must also continue to be girls. Finding that balance between maturity and innocence, between responsibility and hope, is what keeps us afloat. It's not about being totally mature or completely immature, but about embracing both versions of ourselves. That balance is, in the end, what makes us truly human.

Living through the experience with your mother to understand that stage as a woman, as well as the lesson in the case of your neighbor with that terrible disease, allows you, as you say, to prepare yourself and see the importance of self-care.
Finding that balance between maturity and innocence is very valuable. Thank you for sharing your experiences,

My late best friend and roommate had a very aggressive form of Cancer and our journey manifests in it's own way. Every patient has his or own set of obstacles, setbacks, milestones and victories. Her journey taught me that Cancer can strike anyone even with no family history of this scourge and must be just as diligent and vigilant as those that do.
Thanks @lianny
