Beer and Food

Another week and another #beersaturday. This one was less exciting then my previous vacation beer experiences. Nonetheless, if im going to drink a beer I may as well talk about it. Today I'll be doing a brief review on two beers that I drank recently, an amber ale and a classic stout. I took some pictures of the food that I ate with them, so I'll mention that as well. I hope you enjoy. Here we go!

Beaus Barn Burner

Brewery: Beaus Brewing Co
Origin: Vankleek Hill, ON Canada
Style: Amber Ale
Abv: 5.5%
IBU: 25
SRM: Unknown

The first beer that I drank was an Amber Ale from Beaus brewery. Beaus is a decent brewery and in my mind, one of the pioneers of craft brewing in Ontario. I don't actually know when they were established but I remember them being one of the first small micro breweries on the shelf when craft brewing was just becoming popular. Someone correct me in the comments if I'm wrong.

It came in a metalic red can with white accent colors. The image was of a barn, as the name of the beer implies. The design was boring to me but was "on brand" for the brewery, which tends to portray farm images in its marketing - tractors, crops and fields, and barns...etc.

The beer poured a deep ruby color with a frothy head of white foam. The liquid was very clear as well.

It was malty in its aroma with notes of bread and some fruity hops. There was some sweetness in its flavor with mild toffee coming through.

Overall, I thought that it was a decent beer. It was nothing too special for me but certainly enjoyable. I'd drink it again, though I probably wouldn't go out of my way to purchase it. It was one of those types of beer.

I drank this beer with homemade hamburgers that night. Burgers and beer is always a good pairing. I always make my burgers from scratch and they turned out pretty good that night.

Guinness

Guinness is a popular beer that everyone knows so I won't bother to fill out all of the data style info this time.

I drink Guinness periodically and have done reviews on it in the past. All I want to say about this one was that it was probably one of the worst beers I'd drank in a long time.

20260228_162847~2.jpg

It had to be an old can that was sitting on the shelf too long because it had a stale quality to it that was a little off putting. The stupid part about that was that I didn't notice it at first but after I did part way through I kept drinking it anyway. I didn't get sick or anything but I just couldn't get the horrible taste out of my mouth for the rest of the night.

Even two hours later it would periodically creep back into my throat and onto my tastebuds. Yuuuck. I think it turned me off Guinness for a while. I won't be revisiting the brand anytime soon.

That night I made Shepherds pie for dinner.

I did it a little different this time by baking it in a pie crust with mashed potatoes on top. The pie crust didn't help the dish unfortunately. It absorbed some of the liquid and left it quite dry. It was edible but a bit of a fail nonetheless. All in all it was a double fail for the beer and food that night. Whomp whomp.

Well thats it for now. Until next time, cheers everyone!

I'm always a fan of a good amber beer. The burgers look great too. We are going to make our own burgers and grill them tonight for dinner.
