Craft to make a cardboard toy for cats (ENG/ESP)

Greetings, lovely DIYHub creative community! It's a great honor to reconnect with you all to share my second ingenious project for the November contest, where we explore human-animal relationships. I'm sharing a cat toy made with fish figures, crafted from recycled cardboard.

Cardboard is a very versatile material, ideal for crafts. It's durable, and you can create great projects for the home and many other useful items. It's easy to find; if you don't have any at home, you can go to a store that sells empty boxes and take them with you. You can also find them displayed outside shops, neatly folded and clean.

I was inspired by fish for this toy because, beyond being food for both humans and cats, they can be pets that we can keep at home in a fish tank and become part of the human-animal relationship. We can develop loving bonds and respect for the lives of fish, especially for children who adore both fish and cats. So, it's important to nurture this relationship when having fish and cats as pets.

Speaking of my cats, as I mentioned in my previous post, we have three: Meylin, Panda, and Luna. That's why I made three small fish with flexible strings so they can manipulate them and have more fun. I made this toy with a hanging loop, but it can also be placed on the floor so they can use it to sharpen their claws, preventing damage to the furniture.
They are very curious and love new things, so I made this toy to keep them curious and entertained.

Es un gran honor reconectar con ustedes para compartir mi segundo ingenioso proyecto para el concurso de noviembre, donde exploramos la relación entre humanos y animales. Les presento un juguete para gatos hecho con figuras de peces, elaborado con cartón reciclado.

El cartón es un material muy versátil, ideal para manualidades. Es duradero y permite crear fantásticos proyectos para el hogar y muchos otros objetos útiles. Es fácil de encontrar; si no tienen en casa, pueden ir a una tienda que venda cajas vacías y llevárselas. También pueden encontrarlas expuestas fuera de las tiendas, bien dobladas y limpias.

Me inspiré en los peces para este juguete, porque además de ser alimento para humanos y gatos, pueden ser mascotas que podemos tener en casa en una pecera y que forman parte de la relación entre humanos y animales. Podemos desarrollar vínculos afectivos y respeto por la vida de los peces, especialmente los niños que adoran tanto a los peces como a los gatos. Por lo tanto, es importante fomentar esta relación al tener peces y gatos como mascotas.

Hablando de mis gatos, como mencioné en mi publicación anterior, tenemos tres: Meylin, Panda y Luna. Por eso les hice tres pececitos con cuerdas flexibles para que puedan jugar con ellos y divertirse más. Les hice un lazo para colgarlos, pero también se pueden colocar en el suelo para que afilen sus garras y así evitar dañar los muebles.
Son muy curiosos y les encantan las novedades, así que les hice este juguete para que se entretengan y sigan aprendiendo.

If you enjoy drawing, use a letter-size sheet of paper, draw fish, then take scissors, cut them out, and use them as a template to place on cardboard and make cardboard fish shapes.
After using a craft knife, cut out the cardboard where you drew the fish and remove the cut-out shapes.

Si te gusta dibujar, usa una hoja de papel tamaño carta, dibuja peces, recórtalos con tijeras y úsalos como plantilla para crear figuras de peces de cartón.

Después, con un cúter, recorta el cartón donde dibujaste los peces y retira las figuras recortadas.

Using the leftover cardboard scraps and the marker, draw scale shapes, and use the ruler and the marker to mark and cut some strips. Then, using hot glue, glue the scales onto the fish.

Con los retazos que te quedaron de cartón y el marcador, dibuja formas de escamas, y usa la regla y el marcador también, para marcar y cortar unas cintas, luego con silicona caliente, pega las escamas sobre el pez.

The scales and ribbons are glued on with hot glue, so you'll cover the whole fish on both sides.

Las escamas y las cintas, se pegan con silicona caliente, así vas a cubrir todo el pez por ambas caras.

After finishing the decoration of the largest fish, cover the smaller fish with a matching fabric, using silicone to glue the fabrics to the cardboard along all the edges of the fish's body. Also, braid a decorative element to add more color and encourage the cats to pay attention to these fish.

Al terminar la decoración, del pez más grande, se forran con tela combinada, los peces más pequeños, usando silicona para pegar las telas con el cartón, por todas las orillas del cuerpo de los peces, también, teje una trenza para decorar y darle más color, que motive a los gatos, a estar atentos a estos peces.

Once the decoration of the fish is finished, holes are made for hanging.

Una vez terminada la decoración de los peces, se pasa a hacer unos orificios para colgar.

And with a hole punch like the one I have, you'll only be able to mark where to punch, since my tool isn't strong enough to punch through double-layered cardboard with such a hard texture. If this happens, finish punching with the tip of the scissors. Place the strips where you glued the fish, then hang them on the larger fish, secure them well, and this toy will be ready to keep my kittens, and yours, entertained and less curious and demanding with delicate things in the house.

Y con un perforador como el que yo tengo, solo podrás marcar donde perforar, ya que mi herramienta, no es lo suficientemente fuerte para perforar un cartón doble y de textura tan dura, si te pasa termina de perforar con la punta de la tijera, coloca las tiras donde pegaste los peces, luego cuélgalos al pez más grande, fíjalos bien y así este juguete va a quedar listo para que mis gatitos, y los tuyos, estén más entretenidos y dejen de estar tan curiosos e imperativos con las cosas delicadas de la casa.

In the photo, you can see the male kitten, Panda, sniffing and getting comfortable with his new toys. However, Luna and Meylin were asleep, so a big surprise awaits them. I didn't want to wake them for the photo, so I'll have to wait for that.

I hope you liked the idea of using these fish to entertain your cats in your backyard or anywhere they feel more at ease.

En la fotografía pueden ver al gatito macho, Panda, que está olfateando, y tomando confianza con su nueva adquisición de juguetes; Sin embargo, Luna y Meylin estaban dormidas, así que las espera una gran sorpresa, no las quise despertar para la fotografía así que se las debo.
