The thing about the oil and gas industry is that it does not know break, and no matter how people try to be sentimental about it, it isn’t just possible to take a break when you work with a company in this industry. I was speaking with my MD last week and he was talking about how much work we have to do this period. Actually pleading because he understands that it’s the festive season and many of us would love to travel home for the holidays. But then again, the jobs won’t do themselves, and thus all hands must be on deck because it isn’t just a company issue, it is a national issue.

For the oil and gas industry in a country whose major source of income is from oil, it is highly paramount that oil does not stop flowing, if it stops for even 5 minutes a lot of people will be in trouble, as there will be pressure from the president’s office down to our little organization and thus we can not afford to be the reason oil stops flowing. This is why we can be called up at any time any day once an issue is noticed. My company is specifically into NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING, and this sector of the oil and gas industry ensures that tests are periodically carried out on equipment to check for issues and report before they become major issues.

This means we are always working and must always be one step ahead couple with the fact that we have other companies ready to the the job we are doing, being arlet at this point is of high necessity as we can not afford any form of incompetence from our end. I have since adapted to this lifestyle but I see my new colleagues struggle to keep up. I am always with my PC and try as much as possible to keep up so I do not slow down those working with me because of my unavailability.
