SOME CULTURAL LESSONS
There is a way we have been taught culture should be, and I must confess I have been streamlined to that level of thought since I can remember. Culture has always been the way of life of a people, but a lot of times we forget that before it becomes the way of life of a people, it was first the way of life of a person. When we hear culture we usually hear just tribes, it’s not common to hear generation. For example, it was the culture of the millennial generation to obey, and derive intelligence from previous cultures and traditions. It is however the culture of the Gen Zs to challenge these things that has been accepted by generations past.

Respect in the Nigerian culture can be seen in greetings, respect in the American culture, can be seen in minding your business. And this is something they don’t teach us in school when they teach us about cultures. I have heard people say there is a difference between tradition and culture, and when you think about it, even religion has a thin line between it. I believe both play a vital role in forming any culture we see today. For example, it is a christian culture to pray and study, and this does not make anyone good or bad, and it does not also make the religion good or bad.
I believe every culture formed has its purpose, sometimes the purpose is carried out religiously, and other times it’s carried out with the intent of upholding the cultural values. This is why I try to avoid stereotyping people because of a particular belief system that has formed their cultural habits. I instead look at their actions if at all I must Judge. But then again, I believe culture is not something we can do without, whether good or bad.

That is true my dear friend.
You made a strong point...culture often starts with individuals before becoming a group norm.
You highlighting generational shifts and the thin lines between culture, tradition, and religion is admirable. It’s a thoughtful perspective many overlook.
Nice entry
Both religion and traditions are intertwined and these form the basis of our cultural practice. Even as an individual we try to build a culture that we resonate with from the existing Cultures. It's all about subscribing to what's appealing.
Rightly said
Every culture or tradition we have today start with a single person before it turns to a group or community thing. For every tradition their must be something that triggered it
You are right! School doesn't teach us about other cultures we need to find other ways to learn about them!!
Religion and tradition are inseparable. Even the Christian religion is rooted in the tradition. Thanks for sharing.
