LOVE AND COMFORT
To love is to suffer, to avoid suffering one must not love, but then one suffers from not loving. To be happy is to love, but suffering makes one unhappy therefore to love is to suffer, not to love is to suffer, to suffer is to suffer. Whenever I think about love I remember this quote by Woody Allen and I just smile because it is completely true. I mean think about the fact that loving a person comes with a lot of difficulty, they will definitely hurt you at some point, you will hurt them, but at the end of the day, you can't just leave them even when both of you have hurt each other. Is there any other way to describe this other than the fact that you both have chosen to suffer?
Now imagine suffering emotionally while also suffering financially. Money can indeed not buy happiness, but it can definitely give a level of comfort and avoid some unnecessary drama. At the very least you won't need to be quarreling over who ate the last meat in the pot because in truth there is nothing to eat after that. There will be no need to call your spouse wicked simple because they spent 5000 naira on themselves and not you. Love isn't the reason why these kinds of quarrels happen, they happen simply because there is no money. If there was money the last thing on your mind would be how your spouse spent money on themselves, you will be busy thinking of what to buy them instead of thinking about what they do with their money.
I have been in this loop and I know how frustrating it can be. Does this mean those without money should not love, absolutely not, it just means that you must grow above making money an issue and in doing so, you must ensure that your partner does not suffer because of your financial decisions. It is both your responsibility to look out for each other and ensure that both of you are not financially drained because of whatever situation life brings your way. This is something that takes a lot of learning to practicalize, but once you understand it, you will have a happier relationship.
