BIASED OR NOT, IT’S ABOUT COMING TOGETHER

I am a football fan, although not a die hard one, I love to watch my team play. But I am not here to talk about my team, I am here to talk about my country and international sports. I believe that there is nothing that brings people together like a great sport, and when it becomes international, you get to see all the sport lovers and even some non sport lovers come together to support their country. You see some even praying and fasting in the way they know how with the hope that their nation wins. Not because they are being paid for it, but because of the joy and love that comes from being proud of your heritage and knowing your country men and women are fighting tirelessly to raise the standard of your country above others. You get to see the joy when they win, and the sorrow when they lose. You also get to feel the pride and honor when they gave it their all and suddenly you are proud to be a citizen.

Now if anyone thinks it’s all a waste, then I am sorry to say, but they are sad and sorrowful people who do not know what joy means. The fact remains that there are over 7billion humans on earth, and the poor will always be among us, the sick will always be there, and sorry to say people will not stop dying. But even if it’s once every four years, or once every two years, let's all come together for once. It’s in events like this that you feel the love of the nation, for once the National Anthem and National flag means something. For once someone gets to represent you on the big stage, for once you feel like you matter. Not because you are there, but because you look around you and see your fellow country men all chanting in support for your country and you feel proud to be born there. This is part of the spirit of sportsmanship, and is not just shared by the athletes but also the citizens supporting the athletes.

For once we can all forget about the trouble going on in the nation (there will always be trouble) for once we are not coming together to protest in anger, and when we win, we come together to celebrate in love. I bet you that is the only time a lot of homeless people might ever feel like humans, because the joy of sportsmanship makes us see each other as one at that very moment. So if it’s up to me, I would want those sports activities to rise because it’s a stage where stars are born. A lot of people never knew about Jamaica outside Africa until Usian Bolt won in the Olympics. Athletes like Anthony Joshua also came from these places, they made the nation proud and carried the pride of the Nation to other stages of the world. I could see how it was in Argentina after the last world cup. I can only imagine how it will be here in Nigeria if we should win the world cup. I can trust that there will be a lot of giveaways for a start lol. But yeah, it’s all about coming together.

Exactly 💯 Just this one thing brings us all together in love and we get to have one voice on one thing for the country aside God bless Nigeria. So there's no way it should be a waste
