ANOTHER DAY TO FORGET

(Edited)

It was like every other day going home from work. Okay let me rephrase that sentence, It was like every other rainy day going home from work, or so I thought it was until I came out of my company estate to discover there was no taxi. I wasn’t surprised because it was a rainy day so I expected that there would be traffic, and I expected the traffic to cause scarcity of cabs. But to my surprise, I got a cab on time which would take half the journey but my joy was cut short after I reached my next bus stop to find nothing less than 1000 people on the road waiting for a cab, bus, or anything that could take them home.

I really wish I am exaggerating this story, but after I stopped counting at 700 after standing for over two hours and I didn’t want to look any more weird than I was already looking in the process of trying to count the number of people at the bus stop out of boredom. The issue wasn’t that there were no cars, the issue was that we could all see the cars in a heavy traffic and every time the traffic was clearing and we were thinking it would soon be over, more cars looking like they were coming from traffic just start piling up again causing another traffic because a huge truck broke down in the middle of a major road.

After another hour the traffic began to really clear off for real and we started seeing empty cabs again, but this time they were really few. Jumping into a cab wasn’t the issue for me because at this point everyone was struggling to enter anything that was moving. But three out of four times I tried Jumping on one, I saw either an old lady, a pregnant lady, or a mother with kids, and out of compassion, I just allowed them to enter. I got in the fourth time, and it was then I realized the traffic had cleared, it had just become so late that a lot of cab drivers had retired to their homes.

I got hope expecting to just eat and sleep, only to find out that the rain took off the roof in my room and water and got in. My sister managed to save a good portion of my bed, but that was all that could be saved. Now I had to join her in cleaning up as the place had become really messy. It was not a day I like to remember because it was one of those days I just wished would pass fast. What an unbelievable day.

You handled it with so much grace, even in the middle of that chaos, hours on your feet, drenched, frustrated, you still chose kindness. You let others go ahead.

It wasn't easy though, I guess I was just brought up that way

It is a gentleman that allows others to get a taxi before himself - although everyone is eager to get home from the rain. Getting home to mess created by the rain is annoying. It must have been frustrating to have to clean up when all you wished for is to relax. It was an unbelievably challenging day indeed.

That day was just so annoying, it took everything in me not vent my anger on others
