My Honest Advice to New Graduands
Nameste friend's. This is another great week to talk about exciting topics like honest advice to give to someone leaving school, which is the theme for #iucontest this week.
The truth is that we all have big dreams, and that's our reason for enrolling in the university. Many have admired bank managers and directors in many big establishments, and they feel that going to college will make it easier to get to such a position. Well, going to the university makes it easier to attain some positions that an ordinary person wouldn't achieve, but there's more. Most times, it doesn't always go the way we plan, and thus, we may end up disappointed and in regrets.
The following will help graduating students have a positive outlook.
■ Firstly, they have to understand that graduation and certification don't automatically bring job. This means that they might have to job hunt for months or probably years before they get a good job. If they have this in mind, they would have the right attitude and expectations when the job doesn't come immediately.
■ Secondly, they might get a job that is not really want they want, or a job outside their field. They shouldn't rule it out outrightly. They should give the job a chance and use the opportunity to explore and expand their knowledge and experience. This will be an added advantage when applying for other jobs.
■ Thirdly, if possible, they should learn a skill before graduation. This skill will help them take care of their expenses while they job hunt. If they also work at perfectly the skill, they would be able to establish a business, and instead of looking for a job, they will employ others that will work for them.
■ Lastly, the world has gone digital. Everything is now now through the use of technology, so it will be wise if someone leaving school takes a course on coding or AI related courses. We have a lot of them online. This is help them be ahead of other job seekers because a firm will definitely want to employ one who has more skills and very familiar with the use of technologies because what most firms want is a quick result.
I believe that if newly graduated students follows these advice, they will do great after graduation. In fact, I wish someone had advised me during my own time in school. Most of the mistakes I made would have been avoided if I had been advised.
I hope this article helps someone leaving school soon, to have the right expectations, to plan for set backs and delay in the labour market and most importantly to learn a skill before graduation and be digitally exposed.

Many graduate finish school with the mindset that the certificate will bring a job for them, but reality has a way of teaching otherwise. Having the right mindset and being ready to take opportunities, even if they’re not exactly in your field, can open unexpected doors. I especially love what you said about learning a skill before graduation. Honestly, that’s a lifesaver while job hunting and could even grow into a business. And yes, the world is digital now anyone who adds tech skills will definitely stand out from the crowd. Thanks for sharing..
