What I Will Do With All the Money
People all over the world wake up every morning and the main task that they have is to earn money. We get up early, drive to work, spend many hours at the workplaces, and even fail to get rest, all in the interest of earning. Money to most of us in Nigeria is more than the paper or coins. It is the key to a better life. I hope to pay school fees, good food, nice clothes, a comfortable house, and even assist others.
I usually pose a question to myself and that question is; When the day comes and I am offered all the money I have always wanted to buy what will be the first item I buy? It is not a question of shopping and spending. It is about value. It concerns the most important thing to me as a Nigerian woman.
The initial thing I will use the money is to purchase a house. I have been brought up in the ways stressful it can be to meet rent every year. Lots of families in Nigeria live in fear of landlords notice. In other cases, a landlord may hike the rent abruptly and tenants are left hanging. Being in your own house, that fear is all gone. A house cannot be considered as a mere structure; it means safety, tranquility and stability to the family. In the case of my own house, I am sure that my children will never lack a roof to cover them.
Once I have purchased a house, my second goal will be on education. Education is powerful. It changes destinies. Through money, not only will my own education be enhanced, but I will be also able to contribute to those who may not be able to do so. Nigerian parents are unable to pay fees and many bright Nigerian children drop out of school.
Others find themselves wandering in the streets wasting their talents. Provided that I have the necessary amount of money, I will sponsor children, particularly girls to receive quality education. This will be my final purchase in this world since it is not only about me, it is about an investment in the future.
I will also use money in healthcare. In Nigeria, we are aware of how tricky it is to find good hospitals. Most of the deaths occur due to inability to pay medical bills and not the inability to cure the illness of the victim. I have seen the mothers losing their babies in birth because of lack of proper medical care. Through money, I will ensure that my family gets the best healthcare. I will also do my best to achieve support to clinics in rural locations where women and children are the hardest hit.
Freedom of time is another valuable aspect that I will purchase. This might appear weird but a good number of us do not possess our time. Most of us work all day in order to survive. When I finally get all the money I need then I will purchase back my time. I will have more time with the family. I will get silent mornings to pray, nights to rest and days to travel. Money allows you the freedom to decide on how you wish to make use of your day and that to me is priceless.
Naturally, I will not forget to assist those who need it. Poverty permeates Nigeria. You find it in the streets, in the markets, in the villages, in towns as well. I think wealth without giving is a waste. Should God give me bountiful, then I will have small businesses constructed where women sell petty items by the road.
I will offer scholarships, nourish widows and assist churches to carry out the work of God. Helping someone out of poverty to help them rise higher is more joyous than purchasing an expensive automobile.
Lastly, I will travel. I also have a dream of traveling around the world, yet Nigeria is beautiful. I would like to go to those destinations that I only read in books or watch on TV- the Eiffel Tower in Paris, deserts of Dubai, the Caribbean beaches and the sacred Israel. Traveling opens the mind. It brings new experience and new thoughts which cannot be taught in the classroom. I will also leave memories that will last forever with money.
Finally, money is not only spent carelessly. It is to build, to provide the future, to simplify life, and to bless other people. My final purchase will not only be of materialistic nature, but of peace, freedom, education, health and happiness of me and others. This is what I will do when I have all the money I would like to have.
