I had no clue of what to expect when I got acquainted with this video submission by @akwash360 to the Vibes Web3 Music Challenge Week 39. But ever since he started singing that song Treasure I could feel something deep down my chest. As a female Nigerian, who has experienced the feeling of losing something valuable, the lyrics of this song affected me more than I was prepared to.

I heard his voice and it got my attention. It was not noisy or exaggerated, but soft, and emotional. Each instrumentation and note seemed well distributed like each direction could make the note go to the heart. He sang purposefully, giving the song room to breathe. Although the song was a cover of an already preexisting soundtrack, he performed it with genuineness that you would think was his very life story being played out.

I enjoyed his naturalness in performance a lot. No sparkling fireworks, no pounding beats that were distracting; that was all about his voice, his presence and his heart. This was pristinely uncomplicated in an era when there is much attention to ‘over-polish/’over-decorate music entries. Very often the most powerful plays are those which do away with the sound and fury and leave the plain naked truth. This is what this video provided me with.

Lyrics started tugging at my ears as I listened. The words talked of locating a treasure only to regret at the last moment the prize. That hit me somewhere. How many times have women regretted today find the value of something/ someone after it was lost? I was reminded of my personal past days when I did not think it was important enough and it escaped my grasp.

And what I found even more potent about this song was the emotion that was in his voice. The longing, belonging, the regret, and the love all came together as I heard them. It did not seem that he was singing to win a competition but rather that he was simply doing something heavy to the soul. The degree of honesty in music that is present in that song is something that is difficult to find and when it comes out it may tickle the listener to a point where words by themselves cannot do.

Speaking about his performance I should also add that the rhythm of the song was also one of its beauties. He did not hurry. He left room to think and feel on the part of the listener. I could feel myself literally holding my breath line by line waiting to hear what the next words were. I was hooked with that suspense the whole way through.

I understand how a person may feel like an outcast or invisible particularly when they have something in mind to offer to the world. I could tell, based on the manner @akwash360 sang that not only was he performing a song but was also offering a portion of his own life. That requires boldness. Standing in front of people, barring your heart and running the risk of them not understanding you is not easy. But he did it with modest power.

The lesson that I learned through this video is that treasures- be it people, dreams and opportunities should be identified and held dear until we have them. The song brought a note of how there is no easy stepping into lost love. It made me ponder how I treat the things which are important in my life at the present time.

In conclusion, the video entry @akwash360 in the Vibes Web3 Music Competition Week 39 is not only performance it is also a tearful reminder of the worth of what precious to us. It was unforgettable because of his voice, his sincerity and the common presentation. It resonated with me and I think it will resonate with many others that hear.
