The carnival season began in the twilight city on Saturday, February 14. After a week of preliminary activities, such as the election of the carnival queen and last Friday's parade in the city center to kick off the four days of carnival celebrations.

I was unable to attend the queen's inauguration, which took place at the Juárez Theater, but I kept up with social media to find out who the winners were. Not only was the carnival queen chosen, but also the queens of tourism, culture, and sports. They were all beautiful and very talented.

Desde el pasado sábado 14 de febrero ha comenzado la temporada de carnaval en la ciudad crepuscular. Tras una semana de actividades preliminares, como la elección de la reina del carnaval y el desfile del pasado viernes en el centro de la ciudad para dar el pistoletazo de salida a las actividades para celebrar cuatro días de carnaval.

No pude asistir a la toma de posesión de la reina, que tuvo lugar en el Teatro Juárez, pero me mantuve al tanto de las redes sociales para saber quiénes eran los ganadores. No sólo se eligió a la reina del carnaval, sino también a las reinas del turismo, la cultura y el deporte. Todas eran hermosas y muy talentosas.

The comparsas, bands, shows, and floats began on Saturday. As in recent years, the parade takes place on Florencio Jimenes Avenue. The carnival celebrations begin in the area known as El Tamunangue, where the Cetam co-working space is located.

At the Metropolis Shopping Center, there is a brief stop because a stage is set up there where representatives of the government and the media gather, and some activities are held early in the morning. The entire avenue is filled with people, and the surrounding area is filled with vehicles and motorcycles. By the way, the entire area is closed to vehicle traffic, and alternative routes must be taken.

Las comparsas, bandas, espectáculos y carrozas comenzaron el sábado. Como en los últimos años, el desfile tiene lugar en la avenida Florencio Jimenes. Los festejos carnavalescos comienzan en la zona conocida como El Tamunangue, donde se encuentra el espacio de cotrabajo Cetam.

A la altura del Centro Comercial Metrópolis, hay una breve parada porque allí se instala un escenario donde se reúnen representantes del Gobierno y de los medios de comunicación, y se realizan algunas actividades a primera hora de la mañana. Toda la avenida se llena de gente, y los alrededores se llenan de vehículos y motocicletas. Por cierto, toda la zona está cerrada al tráfico de vehículos, y hay que tomar rutas alternativas.

The carnival parade that starts there runs along the entire avenue until it reaches the Obelisk, where it ends with everyone gathering and, of course, there are musical and entertainment activities for the whole family.

At the Obelisk, there are children's activities from early in the morning for the kids to enjoy, as well as sports activities. And at night, when all the floats and dance troupes arrive, the attractions begin with live music, which continues until midnight. There are food stalls and street vendors selling products and sweets.

El desfile de carnaval que comienza allí recorre toda la avenida hasta llegar al Obelisco, donde termina con la concentración de todos y, por supuesto, hay actividades musicales y de entretenimiento para toda la familia.

En el Obelisco, hay actividades infantiles desde muy temprano para que los niños disfruten, así como actividades deportivas. Y por la noche, cuando llegan todas las carrozas y comparsas, comienzan las atracciones con música en directo, que se prolongan hasta medianoche. Hay puestos de comida y vendedores ambulantes de productos y dulces.

People go crazy for candy. It's complete madness. They throw candy from the different floats. I think they throw very little, understanding that the budget may be tight, since most of the floats are government-owned. I would like them to throw more, because when they throw little, people go crazy, pushing each other, and children get excited trying to catch the candy.

The Chinese businessmen are one of the last floats, and they do throw better quality candy in greater quantities, and that's when everything becomes chaotic. People even walk behind the float to catch the candy they throw. I had a fit of laughter when I saw the desperate police officer, because the children want to catch the candy and the parents do everything they can to catch as much as possible.

I attended the first two days, but I didn't make it to the obelisk. I didn't manage to catch any candy, but I did take several photos to capture some of the Lara carnival in this post.

La gente se vuelve loca por los caramelos. Es una completa locura. Tiran caramelos de las distintas carrozas. Creo que tiran muy pocos, entendiendo que el presupuesto puede ser ajustado, ya que la mayoría de las carrozas son propiedad del gobierno. Me gustaría que tiraran más, porque cuando tiran poco, la gente se vuelve loca, empujándose, y los niños se emocionan intentando coger los caramelos.

Los empresarios chinos son una de las últimas carrozas, y sí que tiran caramelos de mejor calidad y en mayor cantidad, y ahí todo se vuelve caótico. La gente incluso camina detrás de la carroza para coger los caramelos que lanzan. Me dio un ataque de risa cuando vi al agente desesperado, porque los niños quieren coger los caramelos y los padres hacen lo imposible por coger la mayor cantidad posible.

Asistí los dos primeros días, pero no llegué al obelisco. No conseguí coger ningún caramelo, pero sí hice varias fotos para plasmar algo de los carnavales de Lara en este post.
