New Gastronomic Walk
On the 19th Anniversary of Metropolis

A few weeks ago, the Metropolis Shopping Center in Barquisimeto celebrated its 19th anniversary. How time flies! I remember its opening; I was at the inaugural event. It was quite a novelty in the western part of the city. Currently, the area has grown commercially, but it has also been affected by the economic crisis.
There was a time when the entire shopping center was overflowing with businesses, restaurants of all kinds, and a huge influx of customers to the western part of the city. Back then, crime rates in the country and the city were high.
The economic recession has had a significant impact. Currently, most of the open stores are on the ground floor, while the upper floors are practically empty. I think this is mainly because, in this case, each store has different owners and manages its own lease agreements, etc. Also, it's located in the west, a working-class area, so prices can be higher, and of course, people prefer to go downtown to find cheaper clothes.
Hace unas semanas, el Centro Comercial Metropolis de Barquisimeto celebró su 19.º aniversario. ¡Cómo pasa el tiempo! Recuerdo su inauguración; estuve en el evento inaugural. Fue toda una novedad en la zona oeste de la ciudad. Actualmente, la zona ha crecido comercialmente, pero también se ha visto afectada por la crisis económica.
Hubo un tiempo en que todo el centro comercial rebosaba de negocios, restaurantes de todo tipo y una enorme afluencia de clientes a la zona oeste de la ciudad. Por aquel entonces, los índices de criminalidad en el país y en la ciudad eran altos.
La recesión económica ha tenido un impacto significativo. Actualmente, la mayoría de los locales abiertos se encuentran en la planta baja, mientras que los pisos superiores están prácticamente vacíos. Creo que esto se debe principalmente a que, en este caso, cada tienda tiene diferentes dueños y gestiona sus propios contratos de alquiler, etc. Además, está ubicado en el oeste, una zona popular, por lo que los precios pueden ser más altos, y claro, la gente prefiere ir al centro para encontrar ropa más barata.

The food businesses remain open, although many closed during the pandemic. However, there are still some spaces available for rent in the restaurant area.
To celebrate the mall's 19th anniversary, the restaurant area was remodeled. The celebration also served to inaugurate the new Gastronomic Promenade, a name chosen, according to the mall, by the public through an online vote.
That same day, a cocktail bar opened in the new food area. I think they were forced to do it because other shopping centers in the city, such as Smabil and Las Trinitarias, have carried out renovations in their restaurant areas that have been very successful with the public. It's a constant struggle to attract visitors to their shopping centers.
Los negocios de comida siguen abiertos, aunque muchos cerraron durante la pandemia. Sin embargo, aún hay algunos locales disponibles para alquilar en la zona de restaurantes.
Para celebrar el 19.º aniversario del centro comercial, se remodeló la zona de restaurantes. La celebración también sirvió para inaugurar el nuevo Paseo Gastronómico, nombre elegido, según el centro comercial, por el público mediante votación en línea.
Ese mismo día se inauguró un bar de cócteles en la nueva zona gastronómica. Creo que se han visto obligados a hacerlo porque otros centros comerciales de la ciudad, como Smabil y Las Trinitarias, han realizado renovaciones en la zona de restaurantes que han tenido mucho éxito entre el público. Es una lucha constante por atraer visitantes a sus centros comerciales.

That day, several activities took place, including performances by two artists who are part of the mall's image and promote it on social media.
Music was essential, with a performance that enlivened the entire food court area, where tables had been set up for special guests, mall employees, executives, and so on. There was a space where employees took photos and received printed copies as a memento of the anniversary.
I only passed by quickly, took a few pictures, and saw part of the musical performance, as well as the opening of the food court. I was a bit tired and had even skipped a meal, so I didn't feel like staying until they sang "Happy Birthday" and cut the cake.
I hope the country recovers economically someday and that these kinds of malls will return to what they used to be.
Ese día se llevaron a cabo varias actividades, con la participación de dos artistas que forman parte de la imagen del centro comercial y que lo promocionan en redes sociales.
La música fue imprescindible, con una actuación que animó toda la zona de restaurantes, donde se habían dispuesto mesas para invitados especiales, empleados del centro comercial, directivos, etc. Había un espacio donde los empleados se tomaban fotos y recibían copias impresas como recuerdo del aniversario.
Solo pasé rápidamente, tomé algunas fotos y vi parte de la actuación musical, así como la inauguración de la zona de restaurantes. Estaba un poco cansado e incluso me había saltado una comida, así que me dio pereza quedarme hasta el momento en que cantaran el "Feliz Cumpleaños" y cortaran el pastel.
Espero que el país se recupere económicamente algún día y que este tipo de centros comerciales vuelvan a ser como antes.

It must have been a wonderful time back then, when everything was going so well in terms of the number of shops and the economy, right at the start; it’s a shame that so many businesses had to close because of the scale of the crisis. But it’s true that food outlets are the last to go, because people need to eat. The same thing happened and is still happening in Argentina; the crises never stop and it’s the people who suffer.
On the other hand, I’m delighted about the opening of this food street; I hope it stays open, that the situation really changes and that everything flourishes again, that investors come in and everything improves. Of course, policies must change, as well as providing security for investors. I don’t know how long that change might take, but I’m confident it will happen. I loved the photographs and how the opening was organised, and the fact there was music made it even better. Thank you, JC, for attending this event and spreading the word. A big hug!!🤗

Me entra una rabia cuando escucho o leo a un imberbe que solo ha vivido en dictadura bolivariana, hablar del pasado de forma negativa, cuando en realidad estábamos bien. Le dieron fuerza al monstruo hasta que se volvió incontrolable y estamos pagando las consecuencias.
Esto no va a cambiar en muchos años, tal como me lo has dicho en varias oportunidades.

Es verdad, tardará décadas, eso es algo realista, pero al menos que se vean los cambios. Cuando algo se destruye hasta las ruinas... difícil de levantar.
