Closing of the Miguel de Cervantes Festival

Last week, in the city of Barquisimeto, several activities were held over seven days as part of the Miguel de Cervantes Festival, organized by the Spanish Consulate in Barquisimeto. I wasn't able to attend all of them; some were too far from home, and others because I didn't feel like going out. I'm a homebody and often find myself lazy about attending events, so I don't go to them all.
On Saturday, I wasn't planning on going out to any other events, but I remembered it was the closing ceremony for the week-long Cervantes Festival, so I looked up information about where it would be and went to the Crepuscular Shopping Center, the chosen venue for the closing ceremony.
La semana pasada, en la ciudad de Barquisimeto, se celebraron varias actividades durante siete días en el marco del Festival Miguel de Cervantes, organizado por el Consulado de España en Barquisimeto. No pude asistir a todas; algunas estaban demasiado lejos de casa, otras porque no me apetecía salir. Soy una persona que disfruta de estar en casa y a menudo me da pereza asistir a eventos, por eso no voy a todos.
El sábado no tenía pensado salir a ningún otro evento, pero recordé que era la ceremonia de clausura de la semana del Festival Cervantino, así que busqué información sobre dónde sería y fui al Centro Comercial Crepuscular, el lugar elegido para la ceremonia de clausura.
I arrived in time for the beginning of it all. There were drawings and art made by children related to Don Quixote de la Mancha, an iconic character created by Cervantes and a universal work. I consider myself somewhat of a Hispanist; I believe we should be proud of our heritage. Our current culture is a legacy of the Spanish empire that colonized these lands. I know most people are brainwashed by the Black Legend and all the bad things that come with any process of conquest and colonization, but at least the Spanish interbred with Indigenous people and even Black people from Africa. In contrast, the Anglo-Saxons exterminated the Indigenous people and tribes of North America, but that's a topic for another post.
Llegué a tiempo para el comienzo de todo. Había dibujos y arte hechos por niños relacionados con Don Quijote de la Mancha, un personaje icónico creado por Cervantes y que es una obra universal. Me considero algo hispanista; creo que deberíamos sentirnos orgullosos de nuestra herencia. Nuestra cultura actual es un legado del imperio español que colonizó estas tierras. Sé que la mayoría tiene el cerebro lavado por la leyenda negra y todas las cosas malas que conlleva todo proceso de conquista y colonización, pero al menos los españoles se cruzaron con indígenas e incluso con negros de África; en cambio, los anglosajones exterminaron a los indígenas y tribus de Norteamérica, pero es tema para otra publicación.
The Barquisimeto Storytellers' Union read a story about a little-known character in the country, known as the Venezuelan Don Quixote. Next up was the Telon Abierto theater group, which presented a short and entertaining play that drew laughter from the audience.
At the same time, other theater groups were present, impersonating Don Quixote, Sancho Panza, and Dulcinea. They strolled through the shopping center, taking photos with the audience. Three of them also took the stage and performed a short theatrical performance at the beginning of the event.
La Unión de Narradores Orales de Barquisimeto realizó la lectura de un cuento sobre un personaje poco conocido en el país, conocido como el Quijote venezolano. Luego fue el turno del grupo de teatro Telon Abierto, que presentó una obra corta y bastante entretenida que provocó risas entre el público.
Al mismo tiempo, otras personas de diferentes grupos teatrales estuvieron presentes, personificando a Don Quijote, Sancho Panza y Dulcinea. Pasearon por el centro comercial, tomándose fotos con el público. Tres de ellos también subieron al escenario e interpretaron una breve representación teatral al inicio de la actividad.
In less than two hours, everything was over, and they gave their final words, thanking the audience for supporting them throughout all the activities during the Festival week. The closing ceremony was very well organized. The person in charge of producing the entire seven-day event has extensive experience.
I found it all entertaining and educational at the same time, allowing young people to learn about topics they should already be familiar with, but unfortunately the education system is outdated. That's why I support these types of initiatives and activities organized by the Spanish Consulate in the city.

En menos de dos horas, todo terminó y dieron sus últimas palabras, agradeciendo al público que los había apoyado en todas las actividades durante la semana del Festival. La ceremonia de clausura estuvo muy bien organizada. La persona encargada de la producción de todo el evento durante los siete días tiene una amplia experiencia.
Me pareció todo entretenido y educativo a la vez, permitiendo a los jóvenes aprender sobre temas que ya deberían conocer, pero lamentablemente el sistema educativo está obsoleto. Por eso, apoyo este tipo de iniciativas y actividades organizadas por el Consulado de España en la ciudad.
Espero que les gusten las fotos; no me quedaron muy bien, ya que la calidad fotográfica del móvil es muy baja. Déjenme su comentario.

That bit about the Barquisimeto Storytellers reading on the Venezuelan Don Quixote really stood out for me. As a desk bound guy I get the homebody vibe, but this kind of cultural math tends to add more than it subtracts :) Your pride in he#ritage comes thru and even if the system is dated, community events like this keep knowledge alive. I was happy to here how short and well organized it was, two hours that actually count.
It's great that the Spanish consulate organizes these activities, which are not only fun but also educational. Seeing what you've presented reminds me of the festivities and gatherings that the consulate holds in Argentina, which I have attended on occasion.
Not only does it bring together adults, but also children, and I can see in your photos the joy, but also the representation of those iconic characters. It's great that you were able to attend the activities for at least one day and bring us what they consist of, spreading the word. On the other hand, it is clear that everything is very well organized, and something I really liked is that the children participated with art, each in their own way representing Don Quixote de la Mancha.
All of this is complemented by the theater performances; it was a complete artistic ensemble for this beautiful historical celebration. I loved it; there is a lot of color and joy, and that is good for everyone. Thank you very much, JC. Hugs!

Gracias por pasar. el consulado español es bastante activo en la ciudad y estan constantemente organizando actividades, no había podido ir a otras porque eran algo lejos de donde vivo y el sistema de transporte aquí es una pesadilla.
Averigua todas sus actividades, tal vez con tiempo puedas ir a alguna, son fabulosas, además tenés algo de español verdad? Y te encantan las películas españolas, con eso basta jajaja.

Qué interesante que se haya celebrado un evento como el Festival Miguel de Cervantes en Barquisimeto. Me parece increíble que se promuevan actividades culturales que rescatan una figura tan importante como Don Quijote. Los dibujos estás increíbles, al igual que los vestuarios de los interpretes. Se nota que fue un evento bien entretenido

The closing ceremony is full of energy from the children’s artwork to the theater performances. It really shows that the event celebrated both culture and creativity.
