that cooking show : June 27 2025
yes, it rained yet again. weather in tokyo is getting wet, though it is supposedly summer. i guess we are not there yet. the earth needs to be wet to prepare for the heat coming, that is nature's way, i suppose.
as the rain is falling, i resolved to another treadmill session. no other choice. and besides, the housemate is desperate for a leg session so a treadmill would be for the best, i guess.
i guess it is now time to share what i have been watching while walking in the gym.
black and white spoons
the name of the program is culinary class wars. i am not sure if i have already shared this but this is what the google AI says about the show.
The show pits "Black Spoons," representing relatively unknown or non-celebrity chefs, against "White Spoons," composed of established, often celebrity, chefs.
with 80 "blacks" and 20 "whites", the show had challenges which will eventually declare one winner. i have already witnessed 4 rounds, and this is the 5th with 8 chefs left.
in this rounds, the chefs were to cook the food of their life. one cooked the very first dish she learned, another cooked a dish qhich resembled who they were. i am pretty sure all of those must be delicious, way over my cooking skills. so i am just glad that i am not the judge. but this one was, and he was meticulous. he was the sole three michellin three star chef in korea after all. and what high standards he had.
one chef cooked pasta with a soup based on the one his grandmother usually made when he was young. he made sure to use ingredients only found in the region he once lived in. that was very heartwarming indeed. and he got the highest score of this round, which earned him a spot to directly compete in the finals.
as for the other chefs, they were to compete in an endless cook of until only 1 remains. the cooking rounds will have different show determined main ingredient. and the very first one was tofu.
that scene where the tofu was hoisted down from the ceiling really looked like a scene from squid game.
so tofu it was. the chefs were bewildered. a western cuisine chef even exclaimed disbelief. tofu is not used in western cuisine, he said. and i guess that was the challenge of this round. i guess they will eliminate contestants after each ingredient, i don't know. i will have to f8nd out in the next episode, once i go back to the gym for treadmill that is.
watching a cooking show while on the treadmill is torture, but it is better than doing nothing. i guess i am a bit masochistic then.
anyways, AMPING KANUNAY!
