Living with Unreliable Power Supply

I had something planned to write about today until I saw this week's prompt and I chuckled.

Electricity Supply

I chuckled because imagine coming to talk about how bad my country's electricity is on an international platform where, in some countries, people do not know what it means to live without electricity.

image.jpeg

In some countries, whenever there is a power outage the citizens are informed. They call it blackout over there, while over here it’s people’s reality, sad, right? I know.

I don't know how and where my country missed it, but it is so painful to beg for something as little as electricity. Imagine praying for them to restore power or calculating the next time they'd restore power Arrrrrghhh!! Very annoying!!

image.jpeg

You think all is well in paradise when they restore power? Hell no! People pray that they take it back. You’d hear people say "Nepa take the light oo" “It’s okay oo” ridiculous right? I know. People begging for the power to be disrupted isn’t because they are tired of it or they don't want it anymore but because they are scared that something somewhere might be going bad or they might not be able to restore power again.

Sadly this is no fiction, this and many more happen in my country, and I witness this every single day. It hurts so much that people see uninterrupted power supply as a signal of impending doom. You can't celebrate, be too confident or too hopeful because the power holding company can disappoint you at any time without warning.

In some places, power is seen as a luxury as people have gone months without having "Light" and some have given up on having “Light”. In such places when they finally have "Light" people celebrate like they have won the lottery. Lol, very funny but true.

The importance of having constant power supply cannot be over emphasized, when people do not have access to it, they are greatly affected.

The power supply in my neighborhood is not so great, but we’ve learnt to adapt and manage it with hopes that one day it will get better.

I wish we can get to a point in my country where we don't have to pay heavily for electricity without truly enjoying it. I wish we get to a point where electricity isn't considered as luxury but a "Basic" amenity for what it is called. I wish people who work in power distribution companies behave like humans with compassion and distribute electricity fairly. I wish we didn't have to calculate how many hours before they restore power again. I wish I didn’t have to see uninterrupted power supply as a signal of impending doom. These and many more I wish for my country, and I pray they become reality one day.

While we all hope that things get better, we should always be prepared for whatever comes our way.

This is my entry to the Sci-fi weekly prompt about electricity.

It's just so worse in some areas but in my community, we're enjoying almost 24hours power supply and it's been so for years that's why many people are relocating to my community everyday

Can you imagine! All these wishes have been a wish since we were younger and until now, it is getting worse 🤔
How do you expect a steady supply when the leaders are in charge of the generator's exportation?
We can only hope🤔

Very true, imagine, the Electricity state in this country is still porous despite the promises and oaths we get from our political leaders, I think Solar energy is is now the most reliable source of light now for those who can afford it

True, sadly not everyone can afford it and that hurts.

We all shall be fine.

I'm imagining and wishing similar things over here concerning our beloved country Nigeria. Let's not give up. Keep praying for a better country where we would have a stable power supply.

It's sad to note that even the presidency does not bother about the common man since they have fortified themselves with solar electricity already.

Yes we shall continue to pray that things become better, we can't continue like this forever.

The frustration is understood, long blackouts, unending erratic power supply.

But last month. I visited a state in the eastern part of the country and couldn't believe that I did not use my power bank for the 2 weeks I stayed in that area.

If this is possible in that area why would other states not do the same.

However, that area also were battling the issue of exorbitant bills.

It is something that our country can do if all hands can be on deck and irrespective of the DEI issues we are having.
