Hello, friends, and @diyhub community greetings! This is my entry for this month's initiative on Recycling, Upcycling, and repairing. Thank you very much @diyhub.a very interesting theme for June month. I want to share my upcycling project with you. Instead of breaking down materials to create something new, I repurposed an old pant into a different, every day, useful item, a Bag. It can be a tote bag, shoulder bag, or shopping bag.

I took old jogging pant and transformed them into a tote bag/shoulder bag.

As you can see, these jogging pants are nearly a decade old. I used to wear them when I was a yoga teacher, and they were a good fit when I was slimmer with a waist size of 28 inches. However, my waist size has since increased to 34-36 inches, making the pants unusable for me. A few days ago, while going through my old clothes, I found some clothes for donation.

Here in Norway, people are quite accepting of secondhand clothing as long as it is clean and in good condition. Some social organizations collect old clothes, wash them, and sell them to fund good causes. I have donated various items, but these pants weren't suitable for donation—they had small holes, and I was considering throwing them away or using them as a rug for cleaning the floor.

However, when I saw the announcement from the community regarding the recycling initiative, I had a different idea. I decided to make this bag! It is soft, light, and stretchable. The process is simple and quick if you're confident in your sewing skills. With a few things.
Old pant
scissors
thread
sewing needle
tape and sewing machine.

I folded a pant and marked the length. you can choose how big a bag you want according to pant's lenght. But better to cut it up to the crotch area.

20250604_085208.jpg
Cut the pant in the appropriate shape and size. I kept the string that was around the waist fold

20250604_152813.jpg
After cutting, I created the shaped upper half of the pant.

20250604_085251.jpg
I cut the area where both pant's legs were joined. In the tailoring world, it is called the crotch bottom.

20250604_085951.jpg
lower leg cloth I am using for strips to make handles/belts.

20250604_152813.jpg
This part of the pant I have to refold and make the bag shape.

20250604_152855.jpg
I refolded it, and the Nike symbol came to the front with the string holes on the side. I am not a skilled tailor, so...I have to reshape this with marking and cutting.

20250604_162053.jpg
After correcting the shape,I started sewing the edges. First, I joined both open bottom edges.

20250604_162259.jpg
First stitches from outsided suface.

20250604_162618.jpg
Reopened to get the inner surface for sewing and

20250604_162752.jpg
Made the final sewing on the bottom part.

20250604_152720.jpg
I cut some strips from the lower half of pant's cloth.

20250604_161520.jpg

20250604_161918.jpg
sewing and needling prepared two strips for the bag.

20250604_163003.jpg
Tried them in the appropriate place. marked strip place.

20250604_163623.jpg
Attached the on point using needle and thread.

20250604_193354.jpg
Fixed them using a sewing machine.

20250604_193518.jpg
And the bag is ready, here, can keep full opening around 28 inches.

20250604_194126.jpg
or pulling the string can narrow the opning.
Use for shopping, or as a shoulder bag for the office.
thank you very much for stopping by.:)
