Here's my entry for the BeerSaturday 414 organized by @detlev with a comforting red ale brewed by Espace Public, Nid Douillet. On Wednesday, it was finally warm in Montreal, almost 30 degrees, so after the day's work, I was in the mood for a thirst-quenching, easy-drinking beer. Was this beer the right choice?

Voici ma participation au BeerSaturday 414 organisé par @detlev avec une bière rousse réconfortante brassée par Espace Public, Nid Douillet. Ce mercredi, il faisait enfin chaud sur Montréal, presque 30 degrés, alors après la journée de travail, j'avais envie d'une bière désaltérante et facile à boire. Est-ce que cette bière fut le bon choix ?

As is often the case with microbreweries, L'Espace Public was founded in 2012 by three beer-loving friends, Frank Privé, Pierre Lessard-Blais and Rémi (whose last name I couldn't find). Since 2020, the production facility has also featured a terrace and restaurant for sampling the beers. The owners wanted a convivial place for the people of the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighborhood, hence the name Espace Public. Over the past few years, HoMa (the neighborhood's pet name) has really developed a fine brewing and culinary scene! I'll have to check it out...

Comme souvent pour les microbrasseries, L'Espace Public a été fondée en 2012 par trois amis amateurs de bières, Frank Privé, Pierre Lessard-Blais et Rémi (dont je n'ai pas trouvé le nom de famille). Depuis 2020, le lieu de production est aussi doté d'une terrasse et d'un restaurant pour déguster les bières. Les propriétaires voulaient un lieu convivial pour les gens du quartier d'Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, d'où le nom Espace Public. Depuis quelques années, HoMa (le petit nom du quartier) a vraiment développé une belle scène brassicole et culinaire ! Il faudra que j'y aille faire un tour...

🍺 Tasting / Dégustation :

Tasting Nid Douillet (Cosy Nest) turned out to be just what I'd been hoping for after a hot day at work. This altbier, a beer of German origin with 5% alcohol, has a coppery red color typical of the style, but no foam. It disappeared very quickly once poured. Too bad, I like a nice thick head.
On the nose, cereal aromas dominate, with a hint of caramel reminiscent of the malts used. On the palate, the beer is indeed comforting, perhaps not like a cozy nest 😀. But easy to drink with discreet bitterness and a thirst-quenching finish. Perfect for a peaceful homecoming.

La dégustation de la Nid Douillet s'est révélée être ce que j'espérais après cette chaude journée de travail. Cette altbier, bière d'origine allemande avec 5% d'alcool présente une robe rousse cuivrée typique du style mais sans mousse. Elle a disparu très rapidement une fois versée. Dommage j'aime quand on a un beau col épais.
Au nez, les arômes céréaliers dominent avec une légère touche caramélisée qui rappelle les malts utilisés. En bouche, la bière est effectivement réconfortante, peut-être pas comme un nid douillet 😀. Mais facile à boire avec une amertume discrète et une finale désaltérante. Parfaite pour un retour à la maison paisible.

Design

The design of Espace Public uses the same recipe, with a pigeon and a color palette reflecting the beer contained. Simple and effective. As you can see, the color of the dress is very close to that of the can.

Le design de L'Espace Public utilise la même recette avec un pigeon et une palette de couleurs reflétant la bière contenue. Simple et efficace. Comme vous pouvez le remarquer, la couleur de la robe est très proche de celle de la cannette.
