THE RITUALS EMBEDDED IN CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR

There are many events we partake in as human status become a tradition or a virtual that will practice every year or month. There are several traditions and rituals such as religious rituals like morning devotions, weddings, cultural marriages, Birth celebrations,, aming ceremonies, baby showers, christening, Funerals and memorial services, graduation ceremonies, coming-of-age ceremonies, holidays vacation, Sunday meals, storytelling, Listening to musics, running, exercising, harvest, festivals, sports and so on.

A ritual that has become special and has gone beyond it normal holiday is the Christmas and New Year celebrations. These celebrations once in a year and it's a reminder that it is a means to bring about unity amongst families and friends, a time of gratitude for life and also to be hopeful for the coming year. A special thing about the celebrations of Christmas and New Year is the fact that although the Year may be tough and difficult but when it comes to these. The is always something comforting about it as people prepare for the best of Jesus Christ which also brings about love and care.

Like I mentioned, these has become more than just an holiday but a ritual that people carry out yearly by operating in several occasions to make it a success and a happy one. It create memories in different ways such as exchanging of gifts amongst family and friends which includes foodstuffs, wine, hampers and so on. There is also the ritual of decorating the home during this period with lights, Christmas trees, ornament and so on. As a Catholic, we tend to partake in various religious activities during this time as we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, we engage in vigils and masses.

During this period, people often share meals of different varieties amongst themselves, this is a very common practice and I remember when we were young we used to cook a lot of food with fried meat and shared our neighbors and they would also reciprocate the kind gesture by giving us what whatever they had prepared or could afford and we would eat in joy and happiness.

Also, this is also the period were here We engage in charitable works such as giving out to the less privilege who cannot afford to have a meal or where good clothes during this season. In other words, giving out to those in need would bring about a sense of belonging and make them feel associated with the beauty of Christmas.

Why I choose Christmas and New Year as my favorite ritual for the year is because it is packed with activities that are only limited. One of such activities we encounter during this period is the Christmas carol, it is a time when we gather together to listen to choirs with beautiful voice is sing melodious Christmas tunes. Again, it is a time to watch movies, where matching pajamas, fireworks, parties, countdown and so on.

In conclusion, this is a tradition / ritual that means a lot to me as I always look forward to it, allows me to spend quality time with loved ones and family members who are so distant.
