STUDENTS AND MONEY
Schooling in Nigeria is not as it used to be before when 90% of the students were being sponsored by their parents or guardians. In our modern day world, youths are faced with financial burden to survive in schools. In other words, many of us students are not just studying but are also engaged in financial activities so that they can survive the harsh world we live in. As we can all relate, no matter the amount of pocket money our parents give to us it is never enough to cover all expenses that ranges from handout, food, assignments and so many more.
Based on the prompt on how students are surviving via money and studying, its either they rely on monies sent from their parents at home or the engage other side hustles so as to finance themselves without lacking. In our contemporary world, we see many youths engaging in different activities that brings money and some of them include social media content creation, youTubers, marketing and so many more.
Another method by which student survive in school is by engaging in strict budgeting. This is a situation where a youth who knows he or she is limited to a certain amount of money monthly would prioritize his needs and wants so that he would not go out of his budget and become broke at the end of the month.
These days you hear students complaining that their parents gave them 100k as monthly allowance and it is Never Enough for them. I look back and wonder how it would have been during my time if I had a 100k monthly allowance to myself. I can remember how I would sustain myself on a 10k budget aside from buying of hand out literature books and so on it was quite sufficient.
No doubt things have changed in our contemporary world but sometimes it requires discipline and effort to survive as students in this country.
