SELF CARE ISN'T SELFISH

There are some occasions where being selfish is actually necessary for you to preserve you mental health and body. Based on research and experience, selfishness is not entirely a bad thing but it depends on the situation and how it happens.

Sometimes, what people term selfishness is putting yourself first before anyone else. Some people are so greedy that they expect you to place others first ahead of yourself thereby hurting yourself by turning to other people's need and want. Yes, selfishness means ignoring other people's desire by placing yourself first, there is also a positive side to been selfish.

One means of positive selfishness is by protecting your mental health which is very important especially in our contemporary world where people can be so crazy at times. There are definite instances where you cannot please everyone but you have to avoid and some certain responsibilities or people so as to not be overwhelmed by life. This act of selfishness is to help you stay balanced and emotionally healthy.

Another means of positive selfishness is by setting boundaries between what you can actually do and not do. Based on this issue, there was a time I saw a video on social media where a lady who was not really in good terms with her neighbor had to help her out because the woman was a labor and needed help while her husband was not around.

During this moment they took her to the hospital where she had registered for her antenatal care and everything but during the cause of labor the doctor said they would have to do cesarean operation to get the baby out. The woman, that is the Good Samaritan didn't think of it much but just to save the woman's life gave the consent to go ahead. When everything was done, they called the husband who was not reachable at first and told him about the situation.

Can you believe that this man was accusing the Good Samaritan on why she would allow them to carry a cesarean operation on his wife. The issue got bad as the husband claimed the woman was sponsor the responsibilities of paying the bills because he had no money.

In this case, if the woman had ignored the woman should have been the case and she would not be going through this traumatic experience.
