Why I Love A House With A Garden: LOH #244
If I were in a position to pick a house with a garden or the one without, my answer will be simple. I will choose to have a garden anytime, any day.
While I was growing up, I have always dreamed of having a house with a garden. Not just small garden with just few grasses, but a big one filled with plants, flowers and so many varieties of fruits and vegetables. To me, a garden is like a piece of heaven laying in my backyard.
Owning a garden makes me feel natural. We are always surrounded with nature's gift. Think of mango trees, yam farms, the ones you see when you travel to villages. A garden brings that beauty closer to you. A garden can serve as a place for relaxation after a stressful day at work. Just a place to sit and forget the stress of the day.
I'm completely in love with plants. There is something, special and good feelings that comes when you see tiny seed grow into strong plant, like pepper, tomatoes and scent leaf that makes your stew taste better.
I also love to plant crops that are useful to me, the ones you can eat and use regularly without the stress of going to the market anytime you need them. For example when you grow vegetables like okra for soups it feels very good.
At least you can beat your chest and say I'm the one that planter it. In my country owning a garden is not only for decoration purpose, it is for also feeding your families and being proud of what you can grow on your own.
I know taking care of plants is not always easy, especially with the hot sun here in Nigeria, and also the heavy rains that comes with it. You have to be very skillful and understand the weather before you can successful grow a garden here. Sometimes the soil here can be hard and red, so what you should do is to add manure to make it soft for plants.
And also don't forget that watering is key. It is usually the best when you do it in the morning so the sun doesn't get to dry up everything. You can also cover the soil to prevent it for being wet and keep it away from weeds that wants to grow in. Also you have to take preventive measures to avoid pest.
When you care for you plants it goes beyond work, it is like being complete friends with them. You water, groom and sometimes wish them to bear good fruits. And, in return, they bring fruits, flowers and even serve as shade. Growing a garden also teaches you how to be patient. Whether you are waiting for an okra to grow up, or for your tomatoes to ripe, or just helping a weak plant to grow stronger. All this process makes you feel fulfilled.
For me a house without a garden will feel very empty to me. A garden makes your feel alive. That feeling that you are being close and surrounded by nature. A garden is just too good to have, it is part of who we are.

Hello my friend, without a doubt, a garden at home is life and peace. Caring for plants is very relaxing. Thanks for the tips on how to care for them. Best regards.
I agree that a house without a garden is like an empty home...
I also agree that caring for it should be seen not as work, but as a complete enjoyment.
Fantastic work you're sharing with us.
Thank you!
