Seedlings hydrating crop June 2025.jpg

Nicotiania and Bachelor’s Buttons soaking

On Friday morning I was out in the New Herb garden by 6:15AM. I started at the west end of Row 2 and worked my way down. The 2nd bed would have been the ginger hoophouse, but I’d not started any. So I went to get some flowers to put there.

I quickly found the seedlings in the cold frame desperately needed watering. Because of the high heat all week, I hadn’t been outside and had forgotten them. So I dragged the hose and watering can over to the cold frame and spent 45 minutes watering and organizing the seedlings.

I selected the ones above before I had started so I set them to soak in their tray while I prepped the bed.

As I walked up and down both sides of Row 2, I noticed that the boneset only had nearly open buds on the southeast side. It was a tiny micro climate. There’s nothing near the plant to make the north side behind, besides being the north side.

I planted in this row:

Nicotiania 2
Bachelor’s Buttons 4
Blue flax 11
Fenugreek 8
Chicory 5

I need to make new labels for borage and chicory. But the row is done.

I had to replace her stump and it had rotted down too far on the bottom. But she’s back in the New Herb garden until just before first frost.

I was delighted to see the santolina had made it through the winter. It’s on the east side of the elecampane so maybe that helped some. It’s not zoned for my 4A zone.

I’ve had a lot of trouble starting and growing bible plant. I was delighted one had survived. I have several I was able to start but it will be a while before I get to Row 4.

I finished, got my photos and notes, and cleaned up by 11:50AM. The Senior van was coming to take me to an event at 12:30PM and I had to get a shower. Lunch was a chunk of cheese I ate on the van.

Sound Bath June 2025.jpg

I’ve been to one of these before at a different place and I hoped I would not fall asleep, as I would be sitting in a chair. Several others brought their mats and lay on the floor during it.

He got involved with this when he had a traumatic back injury. He had been a registered nurse and wanted to find another way to practice.

I must say I did not find it relaxing, especially the large gong. The vibrations it produced distinctly made me think of the voices of hell calling. The round circle on far right had hundreds of ball bearings in it and when moved, it sounded like surf. That was pretty cool, as were the small wind chimes behind it.

I didn’t fall asleep and was beyond exhausted when I got home. I made a proper lunch and lay on the couch watching “Miss Potter”.

I got to bed about 8:30PM and was in bad shape, exhaustion and pain. So I took meds so I could sleep.

This is the 3rd (or 4th) walkway and the next big job in the New Herb garden. That’s peppermint and bee balm that have jumped their beds. I hope I will be in some sort of shape to tackle it on Saturday.

Is Miss Potter a movie or a television program?

It could be that north side taking less sun is behind than others?

I agree, gong is for sure not really relaxing

Actually, a this precise time of year, the north side gets nearly as much sun as the south because the sun has me so far north.

When we plant any plant in our garden, we feel much happier when we see it growing.

Seems that there are a lot to do in the garden, as always. Garden projects are like cycles, unending. After you finish one, there are a lot more waving. You're doing great, as always. Enjoy!

I've got Chicory on our list of potential herb garden plants. Have you any experience using Chicory in food or as a tonic? I'd be interested to hear about any personal experiences using it.

No, I originally started growing it in case we needed a coffee substitute. Also because I love the blue of the flowers. But I’ve not used it yet.

So glad to see your beautiful Angel back in the herb garden. She looks good! Too bad you didn't enjoy the sound therapy; the singing bowls are usually very soothing when done right. I wouldn't find the gong enjoyable either. lol
