LOH CONTEST #267: BEYOND THE CELEBRATION; MY FAVORITE PART OF THE HOLIDAY

Coming across this week contest What is your favorite thing to enjoy during the holiday season, and why? I was motivated to write because I enjoy a lot during every holiday season.

The holiday season has a special way of slowing life down, wrapping everything in warmth, reflection, and joy. For me, the thing I enjoy most during the holidays is not the food, though the aroma of the jollof rice and local foods prepared by my mum can be tempting. Sometimes, It is not about the parties, and the celebrations but the joy of reuniting with family members.

Now, coming to my favorite part of the holiday season, I must say that the favorite part of my holiday season is the quiet moments spent with family, especially the early morning gatherings filled with bible study, words of motivation, and prayer. There is something special about waking up on a holiday morning, the house is unusually calm, the air feels fresher, and time seems to wait for everyone to be present. That joy of no rushing to school, no assignments hanging over my head, no work stress for the adults. It’s that time of the year when we all take a breath together. Is it the night where we will sit around my grandma to listen to folktales under the moonlight, these small moments have a way of making me happy. They remind me that no matter what the year looked like, whether it is wins, failures, challenges, and surprise, I still have people who make life meaningful for me.

The holiday season reminds me that joy is not always loud. It doesn’t always come from big celebrations or expensive gifts. Sometimes, it lives quietly in shared meals, inside jokes, deep conversations, and the comfort of knowing you belong somewhere. Also as a student with handwork, holiday season is always a free time for me to focus on my sewing work, putting those style inspiration I have in my mind into fabric, and trying new designs.

So while others may look forward to the holiday travel, the parties, or the festivals my heart always longs for those peaceful family moments; the ones that fills my spirit with joy, release the stress of the year, and prepare me to step into a new season with gratitude.

That is the favorite things I enjoyed most during holidays.
