QC community contest #156- persistence

Question:
Persistence - How important is persistence to you? What's the difference between persistence and stubbornness? Do you think you should always be persistent, or do you think there comes a time when you just have to stop trying?

Persistence is one of the most powerful qualities anyone can have. To me, persistence means not giving up no matter how many times life tries to knock me down. It is the ability to keep pushing even when results don’t come immediately. I remember when I first tried to learn hair styling. Every attempt looked like a disaster: the braids were twisted, the parting didn’t align, and I felt like throwing everything away. But something inside me said, “Try again.” Day after day, I kept at it, and finally, I made someone's hair and today I could proudly share the picture. That was persistence at work.

Persistence, however, is very different from stubbornness. Persistence means trying smarter, not just harder. It means being flexible enough to change strategies when the old ones don’t work. Stubbornness, on the other hand, is refusing to accept reality even when the truth is right in front of you. Imagine planting a seed in dry sand. A persistent person will find better soil, while a stubborn person will keep watering the sand forever, that's the difference.

I believe persistence is important in education, careers, relationships, and even personal goals. But I also believe that knowing when to stop is wisdom. Staying in a toxic relationship or chasing a dead end in the name of “not giving up” is not persistence, it is self-harm. Sometimes walking away is the bravest decision you can make.

Life has taught me this simple truth that persistence is the master key that opens doors, but wisdom is the light that shows which doors are worth opening and stubbornness leads to self destruction.
Thank you dear reading

Stubbornness leads to self destruction.

This is quite correct. Perseverance is refusing to give up on your dream, like you did when learning to make hair. That's the spirit!

That was a really good metaphor. No matter how much we want and try, if we don't have the right environment, tools, and skills, it won't work.

Ufff. This was so good!!
