Splinterlands Art Competition 372 - New Sskah Drudge Wood Carved Symbol

Hello dear friends, I hope you are all doing well. Today, Sunday, before sharing with you, I want to express my deepest gratitude. For another week, my Splinterlands post has been among the top 10 chosen this week. It's been incredible and fills me with immense satisfaction to see my contributions among so many other great creators who amaze us with their work. It's been a fantastic week, and with the news of my previous post reaching 6th place, the week is ending even better. So, to celebrate, I'm sharing with you a wooden necklace I carved of the New Sskah Drudge, a humanoid cobra. I chose his image to create the symbol of the powerful cobra, using only very fine and smooth pine wood. I was able to shape this magnificent figure, full of power and meaning. As is my custom, I will briefly recount the process leading up to the final result. I hope you enjoy it.

Hola queridos amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien, hoy en este día domingo, antes de compartir con ustedes quiero agradecer profundamente, por una semana más mi publicación de Splinterlands está en ente los 10 lugares escogidos de la semana, para mi ha sido algo increíble que me llena de mucha satisfacción, poder ver mis aportes en medio de tantos otros grandes creadores que nos marvaillan con sus publicaciones. Ha sido una semana genial y con la noticia del 6to lugar de mi publicación anterior, la semana aun termina mejor. Así que para celebrar ese hecho vengo a compartir con ustedes un collar tallado en madera, del personaje New Sskah Drudge, quien es una serpiente cobra humanoide, yo he escogido su figura para hacer el símbolo de la poderosa cobra, utilizando solamente una madera de pino muy fino y suave, pude darle forma a esta grandiosa figura llena de mucho poder y significado. A continuación como es costumbre en mi, les relataré brevemente los acontecimientos sucedidos hasta el resultado final, espero que les guste.

PROCESS

First, I used pine wood, which is very soft and has a beautiful tone. I like working with this wood because the finish is always lovely. So I cut a square that was 3 centimeters on each side, then I cleaned the entire surface on both sides and began to draw the silhouette of a cobra snake, which would actually be the symbol of New South Wales Drudge.

En primer lugar utilicé madera de pino, muy suave y también de un tono muy hermoso, me gusta trabajar con esta madera porque el acabado siempre es hermoso. Así que corté un cuadro que tuviera 3 centímetros por todos y cada uno de sus lados, luego limpié toda la superficie por ambas partes y comencé a dibujar la silueta de una serpiente Cobra, que en realidad sería el símbolo de New Sskah Drudge.

The process is as follows: first, I'll trim all the edges to give it the shape of the previously drawn silhouette. For this step, I'll use a craft knife, taking advantage of its thicker, sharper blade, which is useful for removing the most wood. Then, when I get to the smaller parts, like where there are curves, I'll use some of the blades I have, as long as the tip is suitable for the detail work.

El proceso es el siguiente, en primer lugar voy a recortar todos los bordes, para darle la forma que tiene la silueta antes dibujada. Para hacer este paso utilizaré un cúter de papelería aprovechando que su hoja afilada es más gruesa y sirve para extraer la mayor cantidad de madera. Luego cuando tocan las partes más pequeñas como donde hay curvas ahí utilizaré algunas de las cuchillas que poseo, siempre y cuando la punta sea la adecuada para el detalle a realizar.

Once the silhouette is properly formed and defined, I begin to shape the interior to give it volume and contrast. First, I start by cutting one of the smaller edges. We know that cobras have folds on their heads that other snakes don't; the one on the left side, below the head, is very small. Next, I begin to shape the tail, which is raised at the tip.

Luego de que la silueta haya quedado debidamente formada y delimitada ahora comienzo a darle forma al interior de la silueta, para darle volumen y contraste. en primer lugar comienzo cortando uno de los bordes más pequeños, ya sabemos que las serpientes de cobra tienen en la cabeza unos pliegues que otras serpientes no tienen, el del lado izquierdo se ve muy pequeño, debajo de la cabeza. Seguidamente comienzo a darle forma también a la cola, la cual esta levantada en la punta.

It's always very easy to carve the edges, because the figure always stays the same. The problem starts when you have to carve and add volume; it's a real headache, because the interior carving has to match the carving of the edges. So I take my time to gradually shape the lower part of the piece. You can see how the tail is coming along, which is covered by the front part of the snake.

Siempre e smuy facil tallar por los bordes, porque la figura siempre queda tal cual, el problema comienza cuando hay que tallar y dar volumen, es un verdadero dolor de cabeza, porque el tallado interior debe tener concordancia con el tallado de los bordes. Así que me tomo mi tiempo para poco a poco dar forma en la parte inferior de la pieza, pueden observar como va quedando la cola, la cual esta cubierta por la parte frontal de la serpiente.

Next, I begin shaping the front section, which includes the head and face. Here, I emphasize making sure the folds resemble those of a real king cobra. After that, I sand the entire surface until it's very smooth and clean.

Seguidamente comienzo a dar forma la parte frontyal que incluye la cabeza y el rostro, aquí haco énfasis en que los pliegues queden como los de una auténtica cobra real. Después de eso me queda pasarle lija a toda la superficie hasta dejarla muy suave y limpia.

But the work doesn't end there. We know that snakeskin is scaly, so I start carving lines all over the piece to create the scales, especially on the front and the tail. After that, I apply varnish to the piece to give it a nicer, shinier finish, and that's how it's finished.

Pero el trabajo no finaliza aquí, sabemos que la piel de serpiente es escamosa, así que comienzo a tallár líneas por todas la pieza para hacer las escamas, especialmente la parte frontarl y sin olvidar la cola. Después de eso le pongo barniz a la pieza para que tenga un acabado más bonito y brillante, y así quedó finalizado.

FINAL WORK

What do you think of the final result? This time, the piece turned out shinier because it wasn't just one coat of varnish, but three. Between each coat, I let it dry before sanding it. It became very smooth and soft, and then I applied another coat of varnish. It's a very eye-catching piece; I've been wearing it to show it off. It looks quite striking. The size ended up being a bit larger than I had imagined, but it's very special. I hope you liked it. Once again, I thank everyone for their support; without you, I wouldn't have been able to do it. ¿Qué opinas sobre el resultado final? en esta oportunidad me quedó más brillante la pieza, ya que no fue un solo baño de barniz, fueron 3, y entrecada baño dejaba secar para lijar la pieza, esta quedaba muy lisa y suave y hasta ahi volvia a darle más barniz. Es una peiza muy llamativa, me la he puesto para lucirla, se ve muy amenazadora, el tamaño quedó algo más grande de lo que había imaginado, sin embargo es muy especial.
