Two More Weiss Beers for #BeerSaturday

It has been a long week, but for the next couple of months, there will be a lot more stress… I will need to prepare for my PhD defence and then I need to teach philosophy classes as well. But for this weekend, I choose to enjoy a couple of cold Weiss beers and to forget, for this while, the stress that will come along my way in a short while.

I am not the biggest fan of Weiss beers, but I love to explore more and different beers. In this case, I came across to different and unique beers that in some sense challenged my conception of these beers.

For example, the Sabie beer was unlike any Weiss beer that I have tasted. Unique, strange, and probably so far away from what usually goes for Weiss beers, but in the end, after a long jog, I enjoyed it even more!

Without further ado, herewith my tasting notes of these two radically different Weiss beers.

Sabie Brewing co Wheelbarrow Weiss

Weiss | 4.7% ABV | 25 IBUs

The immediate smell was almost like the classic Weiss smell when I opened it and poured it, but it was in fact much more ale like, almost like a homebrewed ale.

It really smells like the first beer that I brewed.

It was extremely carbonated (I think it is most likely bottle conditioned, maybe they added too much sugar, or they wanted more Belgian styled?)

The smell was unique, not banana of fruitlike in any usual sense, but rather strong lemony. As they noted as much on the bottle.

The taste was also extremely lemony; but with malty after taste. It was not full bodied at all; few if any lacing on the glass.

As the beer warmed up, it was more the smell was yeastier, with a little bit of the classic Weiss banana smell as it warmed up. But the lemony smell and taste overpowered; sadly, it is very watery mouth feel. But otherwise, good beer.

Jack Black’s Atlantic Weiss

Weiss | 4.7% ABV | 16 IBUs

This beer was much more like the usual Weiss. It had a strong yeasty Weiss smell (on the nose), nice and fruity banana.

The taste was full bodied but not too upfront or too complex. Bit yeasty with the fruity esters so classic to Weiss. The taste did not linger in mouth like better Weiss beers, even though full bodied.

I am probably too critical of this beer, but it was almost like the perfect Weiss beer.

It was just an overall good beer as well.

Postscriptum, or Cheers to Another Weiss

After a stressful couple of weeks, and now anticipating some more coming soon, this weekend and the beer I had was a good relief from the rough days. There is truly nothing like a good beer when you get take that first taste.

For now, happy beer drinking, and keep well!

All of the writings and musings are my own, albeit inspired by the stress and the beer. The photographs are also my own, taken with my Nikon D300.

You deserve that break after a busy week! And the beers look interesting, especially the lemon flavor. It’s nice to try new drinks, especially when it comes the beers, even if they are a bit different. Good luck with your PhD and teaching soon. For now, enjoy your weekend and your cold beer! Cheers!

I occasionally have a wheat beer. However, mainly, they taste like bananas, with varying degrees of intensity. A citrus taste would be interesting.
Try to get a PhD.

The banana flavour is a good one to enjoy, sometimes it can be a bit strong for me. Thanks so much!

This testament has big impact to me when it comes to taste, appearance and most especially in flavors. There's reason to come by or take a little sip that stroke to your veins and give a kicks on it. The aroma and taste encourage to explore too like in being talky such in gatherings, events and make an joyful memories. Though it has artistry on it that experimenting with herbs, fruits and others too. It suprises me and satisfy what you shared here so applause to that. We discover to appreciate more as well so keep us posted please. AJA!
