A Coconut IPA and a Double Hazy IPA for #BeerSaturday
It felt like I needed a holiday, and I sure did get a holiday in a can! Have you ever heard of a coconut IPA? I have never. But as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to try it. But then I also saw the double Hazy IPA. And here I also knew I had to get it.
I bought these beers in a time of turmoil, uncertainty, and some painful news. I needed cheering up, along with the holiday.
It sounds rather strange, that beer can lift one's spirits. But it really can. Beer for me can have a certain level of impact that goes far beyond and deeper than merely sensorial. It can sometimes hit a spot that is psychological, religious even.
Read in context, beer can make one happy in a sad moment, it can take one on a holiday when things get tough. And this is why I especially bought the coconut IPA and double Hazy IPA.
Please join me on this virtual tasting journey as I drank these beers and made some notes.
Coconut IPA
The first smell was straight coconut. I actually have no idea how they did this. But soon after that, the hit of classic IPA smell: pine hops for sure, but with a slight sweetness.
The first taste was a perfect combination of carbonation, hopiness, and then an overload of coconut.
I really cannot believe that this tastes like coconut.
While it is interesting and refreshing and something I wanted to try for a while, it is not necessarily something I would drink again or on a regular basis.
Even though it was a strange beer it is really a cool beer!
Uncharted Territory Hazy Double IPA
It had a beautiful hazy pour; I love it!
There was on the first smell a bit of the alcohol on the nose, but in the end it was a hops overload: pine zesty lemon, grapefruit, citrus.
The first sip was an overload of hops, with some slight sweetness that balance with the hops. It had an incredible bitterness but all the right way.
It was a full bodied heavy beer with perfectly fine small bubbles and carbonation. Perfect!
But again it was not worth the price. Other double IPAs are much better for the price point. And the can art was not even that cool!
Postscriptum, or As Always, In the End...
Even though in the end I had some critical remarks against these beers, they were still incredible. Like always, one cannot go wrong with these beers.
I loved them, and that is why I was somewhat critical of them.
Life is too short to drink bad beers!
So, for now, enjoy a cold and good beer.
All of the musings and writings are my own, albeit inspired by these beers. The photographs are all my own, taken with my Nikon D300.
Hi
I also haven't seen these beers, where did you get it?
