sjøparken in the winter
please join me on a winter's walk through Sjøparken, a residential area on the shore in southern Norway. the walk starts on the outskirts to the north, viewing from behind a rough wall of larvikite stone of a quality deemed to poor to process for commercial use, placed as a storm barrier
i like how the building seem to rise out of the stone
this shot has been slightly stylized
the walkway/emergency access road crosses a bridge over the canal between the rows of the variously colored buildings
there's a nice view of the water where the road passes under the building across the bridge. it gives an extra feeling of openness
the white of winter gives the place a completely different look and feel than the green spring and summer but it can be slippery, hence the gravel on the icy bridge
decorative urns and such are placed along the way
the prestigious residences are placed at a height well above the water level but when the residences were newly occupied, during a severe storm waves broke onto the road underneath and some of the parking garages took in water. that embarrassing problem was quickly remedied so presumably an even more severe storm should not result in any damage. a couple of kayaks lie to the side but it would be a chilly trip on the water these days
undoubted an attractive place to live so close to the elements
and here i am at the southern outskirts, again with large rocks in the foreground and a view back toward the inner fjord
That's why Norway always fascinated me, amazing walk this look the perfect place for a Nordic thriller.
