Conscious Learning.

Good day every one, welcome to my blog.

The universe has a way of reminding us to celebrate the important people in our life who are alive or dead. If not, why would tge@realtalk community choose an interesting topic like this in the week that marks one year passing of my dear grandma who raised me.

We learn lessons from the people who raised us or the adults we watch as we grow, such lessons show as we navigate our daily lives when we start living alone. One interesting thing about these lessons is that while some lessons are learnt through constant practices, repetition or unconscious continuous practice.

The list of the things I learnt from my grandmother is endless from being patient to taking one's time to get things done to not just doing things but doing it well to being honest, cleanliness to being homely to mention a few. Out of all the above listed lessons one that stands out is that of planning ahead.

Despite not being so well schooled, she would always say anyone who fails to plan is planning to fail. My grandmother can plan for Africa,, she would plan to the extent of a meal. Not just a meal she plans our meal in such a way that we may not repeat a meal for another two weeks.

Sometimes I wonder why and how she was able to do that conveniently and effortlessly despite her source of income and our living conditions. She was a person who survived only on the remittance of what she got from perennial crop farms she inherited from her father and the little her children and families may sent but one thing is we never lacked.

She plans her purchase of clothes towards the time of the payment of remittance, pays my tuition fee in advance and makes sure to buy food stuffs to fill the house. It was during that period I learned that whole sales purchases are cheaper. As a salary learner, I plan my purchase towards the end of the month, change my children's wardrobe once a year from a particular savings set aside for that and I try to make sure we eat one meal only once in a week.

All images are mine.

You did learn a lot from your grandmother. Sometimes, it goes beyond education. Your grandmother was a wise woman, and that's why she was a good planner.
