The second World Hive Pumpkin Championship has started
I'm joining in too š
I saw the long awaited announcement
@der-prophet shared in his post
as well as the post @hive-world-champ
which marked the start of this year's competition.
As the winner of last year's competition in one category - for the biggest pumpkin, I couldn't wait for the second season.
The first season was a bit disappointing.
It was a very hot summer and a lot of pumpkins, which I thought would see the harvest, did not survive.
Unfavorable climate changes and a dry summer killed them even though they were watered.
Only one survived, which eventually took the title "Biggest Pumpkin" and the title "First world champion with the biggest and fattest pumpkin".
From the team of last year's participants, unfortunately, one left us, through whom I heard about the first season.
I would suggest that one of the categories be dedicated in her name, maybe this "most interesting pumpkin", like the one Beeber tried to grow on a tree.
At the same time, I hope that last year's participants who had success until the end of the competition @livinguktaiwan, @seckorama, @themyscira, as well as someone whose pumpkins were destroyed by the drought before the harvest @felixxx, will have even more success this year and that many new pumpkin lovers and growers will join us.
As a contribution, I will donate 3000 Ecency points to be distributed to the winners in all three categories.
I sincerely hope the voting for the winner will be more interesting than in #hwc2024.
And here I am, in the new season of #hwc2025 with the descendants of last year's champion.
After the champion pumpkin was cut (for baking in the oven, making potash/stew and pie), I cleaned the seeds and left them to wait for planting.
The current procedure is not pictured, but there are young buds with newly formed leaves, in small pots for planting, as they await transfer to the field.
When it rained and softened the ground a little, the seedlings were planted.
There are still a few seedlings left that were planted later, which we are waiting for planting in the messy part of the garden.
My idea is to plant them in the grass and let the greenery create a natural shade for them.
I think that the strong sun and high heat last year was a decisive factor that caused all but one to suffer.
I end this first post in #hwc2025 with the last post from #hwc2024.
Good luck growing pumpkins this season and may the competition be interesting and tasty before winter.
You received an upvote ecency
Thanks for support :-)
Wow, that's a big pumpkin, I hope more people join the competition this year š
Thanks š
I hope so too. it's more interesting when it's more crowded š
I would suggest you to join if you have space in the garden, on the terrace, anywhere, where one plant can grow. I just don't know if pumpkins thrive in South America š
I can already see that you will be one of the favourites.
This pumpkin competition will continue to mature over the next few years and hopefully increase interest.
thank you for your generous donation of 3000 ecency points i will mention it in the next post :-)
Good luck friend
thanks š
Good luck to you too!
I believe that because of the proximity of the water, your pumpkins will have a good progress.
Good luck @duskobgd I'm rooting for those newly planted pumpkins! May they grow well and thrive amidst dry weather, keep watering them when needed. Pumpkins are somehow drought resistant but maybe depending on the variety. We planted some last summer and some of them managed to survive while others died.
Happy gardening, and may you win again!
Very awesome job friend and welcome the pumpkin challenge 2025
