Aachen Summer vibes with Devil and the Maid
Summer in the city
Today I had the tough job to test vibrant city life of Aachen during the summer.
Sadly - someone has to test the beer for the upcoming http://hive-summit.com event in late August.
So, I junped in and had a nice evening in town with a stroll through some cool places for food and drinks
When I talk here about Bahkauv beer, I’ve got to mention their IPA called “The Devil and the Maid.”
This beer is a New England IPA brewed by Bahkauv Brew, a cool local brewery in Aachen that draws inspiration from the city’s legendary Bahkauv creature.
Hey Hive Family
views to Aachen and local brews
so let us travel the world again
Devil and the maid
The IPA is packed with flavor fermented with Norwegian Kveik yeast and bursting with aromas of blood orange and citrus thanks to a blend of four hop varieties including Magnum, Mosaic, Cascade, Citra, and Simcoe. It has a 6.5% alcohol volume and a noticeable bitterness that hits just right with an IBU of 70. Just a great different taste to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this evening.
Bahkauv Brew is all about blending tradition with a touch of creativity, keeping the spirit of Aachen’s folklore alive with their beers. Their IPA is a fruity, bitter, and hop forward experience that captures both the city’s character and modern craft brewing mastery. If you love IPAs or want to taste something truly local with a hint of legend, “The Devil and the Maid” from Bahkauv Brew is a must try and during „Hive-summit“ we will have a chance to have @godfish and @louis88 have tasting it. Love to hear their feedback.
So there you have it. A beer that’s not just a drink but a tale in a glass, connecting you to Aachen’s vibrant beer culture and its mysterious mythical roots all at once.
I guess as well @dandegrischdine and @rivalzzz will like this. Cheers to discovering the brew that brings the Bahkauv legend to life in every sip!
Brunnen des Geldes
When I stumbled upon the "Brunnen des Geldes" in Aachen, also known as the "Kreislauf des Geldes" or Cycle of Money, it instantly felt like I’d found a secret story told in bronze.
This fountain, crafted by Karl-Henning Seemann back in 1976, is like a living comic strip right in front of me. Each character around it shows a side of money—greed, stinginess, generosity, even begging—and seeing them all together makes you think about how money really travels through our lives.
The coolest thing? The water never freezes because it’s fed by Aachen’s warm thermal springs. So even in the coldest months, the fountain stays alive, flowing and singing its money story. When I threw in my coin and heard it plink, I felt like I was part of a tradition making a wish, hoping for a little luck to more crypto in our real world and less banks.
For me, this isn’t just a fountain. It's a playful, lively reminder that money moves—always flowing through hands, stories, and moments. Just like the warm water that keeps this city’s heart beating. If you ever find yourself wandering Aachen, this fountain is a must see splash of art, history, and a little magic all rolled into one.

Hey @detlev
I love the vibe of your post. The “Devil and the Maid” IPA sounds like a must try for every beer lover with those flavors that your highlighted up there.
Also, the fountain story was a nice touch. 1976 is a long time ago that the fountain was created and it is still being a major point of attraction till date.
Wishing you and other hivers a great Hive Summit ahead in Aachen.
