‘Skipped My Mind’ Now My Cake Is A Brick

Happy new week everyone, I hope this new week brings alot of goodies to our doorstep!

About skipping something we are all human beings and not robot so there’s every tendency that we are bound to forget somethings that we need to do, forget somethings that we need to take along with us to somewhere important and not until we have left home or gotten to our destination and just when we are supposed to make use of that thing that skipped our mind thats when we remember.
Just like last night, my partner asked me if I had eaten dinner and I said no but after some minutes I recalled that I told him I was cooking earlier and I actually forgot that I had eaten dinner, hearing this he bursted into laughter and so did I.

As a baker, the most tinniest ingredients are always very important, you have to follow due procedures, if the recipes calls for a pinch of salt please do add a pinch of a salt, if it says one teaspoon of baking powder or soda just follow and don’t argue with the recipe and make sure not to skip any ingredients, Last year I decided to bake a birthday for myself and I also had an order from our neighbors wife because her husband shared thesame birth date with me.

When I heard this I was really excited, so I decided to bake both cakes using same batter, so my boss wasn’t around I had the entire space to myself that day, myself and my bosses staff did the work together, she really helped to mix fondant which is quite stressful to do, so I was mixing the batter with everything done accurately except for the part where I totally forget to add baking powder and sorbic acid for preservative.

Normally I do add them to a sieve and sieve them in a bowl before sieving my flour, whenever I’m baking I try as much as possible to keep all my ingredients close by so that I dont skip anyone, but that day those two ingredients wasn’t close to me I totally forgot about them and just continued mixing the other ones, I finished mixing and took them straight to the oven, something whispered to me like after 5 minutes “did you add baking powder and sorbic acid”, Immediately I screamed and ran to other room where I keep my stuffs and found my baking powder and sorbic acid sitting pretty inside one of my rubbers, Gosh I was so vexed but I still decided to put directly into the pans so that the cake won’t be too strong.

I had mood swing through out that day, the cake didn’t come fine at all, it didn’t rise well and the next day when my boss came to the office and saw the cakes the first question she asked was what happened to the cake and she said it didn’t rise well too, plus am I sure I added the accurate measurements, I stood there in front of her silently and couldn’t say a word.
Since then whenever I am baking I arrange all the ingredients that’s needed for the recipe carefully and accurately before I start mixing the batter.
