Today I found some of my childhood toys and it was a very emotional moment. I took some photos of them under the steady light of my desk, where I placed them. The figures seem still, almost harmless, and ready to play with. The hard plastic and faded colors speak of play, of childhood, of something you can pick up and gather together with many other toys and spend wonderful moments of laughter, fun, and happiness. But beyond being a toy, what is striking is that shadows do not understand materials. Shadows exaggerate, stretch, transform, and give a unique touch to everything.

The first character multiplies on the floor, as it has a slightly stranger personality, due to the way its arms are positioned, giving it a broader touch. However, it is also part of that toy collection. Its open arms create an irregular, almost animal-like shape that does not respect proportions. In addition, each arm has a weapon that makes it much stronger. In this toy, the shadow no longer plays at imitating, it plays at inventing. There are no screws or joints: there is menace, being a much stranger shadow than one is used to seeing.

Hoy encontré algunos de mis juguetes de la infancia y fue un momento muy emotivo, donde les tomé algunas fotos y bajo la luz fija del escritorio, lugar donde los coloqué, las figuras parecen quietas, casi inofensivas y lista para jugar con ellas. El plástico es duro y los colores gastados hablan de juego, de infancia, de algo que puede tomarse con la mano y juntar muchos de esos juguetes y pasar grandes momentos de risa, diversión y felicidad. Pero más allá de ser un juguete lo que impacta es la sombra no entiende de materiales. La sombra exagera, estira, transforma y le da un toque único a todo eso.

El primer personaje se multiplica en el suelo, puesto que este tiene una personalidad un poco más extraña, por la manera como están sus brazos y le da un toque más amplio al mismo, sin embargo, también forma parte de esa colección de juguetes. Sus brazos abiertos crean una mancha irregular, casi animal, que no respeta proporciones, además en cada brazo tiene un arma que lo hace mucho más fuerte. En este juguete la sombra ya no juega a imitar, juega a inventar. Ahí no hay tornillos ni articulaciones: hay amenaza, siendo una sombra mucho más extraña de lo que uno está acostumbrado a ver.

Meanwhile, in the other photo of the dark warrior, one of my favorite toys, the silhouette becomes taller and sharper, as if his weapon were not a toy but a real extension of his body, making him appear much larger than he actually is. It does not project a copy, it projects an intention, since the shadow beneath that toy seems to advance one step further than the figure, as if it always arrived first and created the effect of walking in search of someone who wants to play.

Both shadows tell a different story from that of the objects, and each seeks to shine and be different from the original figure. While the figures remain motionless, their shadows seem to be in motion, reminding us that even the smallest thing can become enormous when the light decides to point at it, and this was one of the effects that, without seeking it, came out in the best way, and there are two toys that are very special to me.

Mientras que en la otra foto del guerrero oscuro, siendo uno de mis juguetes preferido, la silueta se vuelve más alta, más afilada, como si su arma no fuera de juguete, sino una extensión real de su cuerpo, dándole mucho más tamaño de lo que parece en realidad. No proyecta una copia, proyecta una intención, puesto que la sombra debajo de ese juguete parece avanzar un paso más que la figura, como si siempre llegara antes y crea ese efecto de estar caminando en busca de alguien que quiera jugar.

Ambas sombras cuentan una historia distinta a la de los objetos, además cada una busca brillar y ser distinto a la figura original. Mientras las figuras permanecen inmóviles, sus sombras parecen estar en movimiento, recordándonos que incluso lo más pequeño puede volverse enorme cuando la luz decide señalarlo y este fue uno de los efectos que sin buscarlo salió de la mejor manera y allí están dos juguetes que son muy especiales para mí.
