Not To Be Forgotten
"What could make an event to remain unforgettable?" I reminisced. I came to realise that we are liable to hold dear to some events or situations in our life that we can't just forget them, no matter how long they could seem. Likewise there are events, situations, points and occurrences in our lives that no matter how hard we might try to forget, they seem no to be. Not for the pleasant memories they bear, rather the pain, regret and other likely reasons.
It seems then that, holding on to the memory of an event in the past—distant or near—could be majorly as a result of any of these two. Nevertheless, they remain unforgettable.

Happy New Month by the way!
Some, probably many of these events are unsurprisingly orchestrated during the days of childhood. A period where one is so flamboyant with life—reckless to say also, and carefree—it definitely has the tendency to yield many of such unforgettable memories through time.
Holding also the ideal of that life period being one of the most easygoing and best ones, the memories have an inevitable retention on our minds. However, some crucial and heartwarming experiences/events in the life of a person can also be largely in the grown up stage. It has the tendency to create and leave memories unforgettable.
Surrounded by a number of people I called friends while growing up, creating and making long lasting, unforgettable memories shouldn't be out of place. We played; several kinds, ranging from easy to difficult ones—those that could cause us injuries and others that were just sheer moments of joy and pleasure. It was from one play to another or one thing to the other. Funny how all that really kept one occupied and entertained. The plays were nice, some were dangerous, but who cares? Not until this particular day, they didn't feel so.
We found a play, it wasn't a nice one. It wasn't more of a play, rather a trick or prank; one that could cause injuries. I had my distance from this, until this day I decided to be a partaker.
So, the trick involved you placing a stone or something on the ground, then asking someone to pick it up in an awkward position. One that would involve the person bending and picking it with their hands stretched backwards in between their legs wide opened. The trick was to make them feel like they won't be able to do it; in a way cajoling them, then when they try to pick it, you drag their hands, and they fall off.
Luring a certain boy into this prank, he fell for it—he wasn't yet aware of the prank in the hood. The moment he tried to pick it up, I dragged his hands and he fell off. It wasn't a regular falling, that was what made it unforgettable. The ground surface at that spot was rough, he fell hard unto it, sustaining some injuries.
Realising my handiwork, I fled home. He in turn went home, reported to his mother and the next thing I could see was a group of people arriving in my house. I was in a moment of tension there, his mother was furious. Somehow the matter was resolved, he got treated and I knew I was in for something not good.
The memories of that event remained in my mind till date. I think back sometimes and laugh it off, grateful it didn't result into something highly regrettable and irreparable. Well, I learned to choose my plays—of any sort, wisely.
This is my entry for the Hive Reachout weekly prompt 45.
