A picture is worth a thousand words: Connection

What I see:

Inside of a room—

• a couple of boot trays
• some pair of outdoor boots
• a sad-looking cat
• a slide sandal
• dust around the trays

What I feel:

I feel emptiness; a dense wind surrounds the area.

Story:

Jack, an adventurous lad and a nature lover, was not bound by the rules of modern life. He chose to not pursue a 9-5 job and wanted to stay close to nature. His parents were supportive of him; they did not question his decision to leave the job and live in a mountain region.

Yet to live, money is needed, so he did freelance jobs and was living peacefully in the lap of nature. But being a social animal, no matter if a person wants to be detached from everyone, he needs some sort of company. So, one day Jack took Mini, a gorgeous cat.

He took her from an animal shelter in the town. Although being shy for a couple of days, cat, being the cat, she became the owner of Jack. They both enjoyed each other's company. Being a city cat, Mini was more interested in staying home. There are rare occasions when Jack took Mini with him.

'Come on, Mini, you haven't eaten for two days and haven't moved an inch from there. Please eat something. I have filled your bowl,' exclaimed Annie, Jack's sister.

She further added, 'I know you are sad because he hasn't returned home for several days. I am also tense, as we came to visit him, and he left for hiking. He told me to take care of you. If you do this kind of thing, he will get angry at me, so that gives me right to be angry at you.' She shouted and then took a break to have a breather.

Poor Annie and Jack's parents! The thing they do not know, the news that will break them, was somehow conveyed to Mini. She knew Jack was not going to come back. He has slipped off the cliff and already has taken his last breath surrounded by nature. The gap of the boot tray is not going to be filled, so she decided not to let the vacancy consume her and decided to fill that place.

Her behavior seemed weird to Jack's family. But, when they got the call from the mountain ranger, after tackling the first wave of emotions, and having the funeral done, returning home, they understood. Jack and Mini shared a very deep connection; Mini somehow knew Jack was not coming back. And she decided to end her life as well. As they found Mini dead on the same spot.
