The forest folk market
This art shows a forest folk market this is how I envisioned and built it as my entry to the World Building contest of @cabalen.
Who are these forest folks you may wonder? They are who you want them to be that is the first leg of this contest. I had already established who they are back then. They are fun loving festival enthusiasts who create fireworks and wear-out-of-this-world outfit. The contest that followed that we defined and built their houses. The houses I made for them mimics the rockets that they light up during festivals. Conical in shape very narrow and are perched on stilts or any platform to give them height because the ground they stand on is hilly.
Today I am joining in the same world building contest this time we are going to build their market. Hope you still follow. Below I will show how I made my art.
I made a rough sketch of the things I want to see. There should be a small stall selling rockets and some fireworks related merch. I am already forgetting how my forest folks look but they always wear these headpieces that are cute and mostly animal like.
Next is choosing the colors that would help tell a story. It was a challenge as always for me picking the colors that would work but here I randomly picked orange and pick. If you have been following my posts you already have an idea that I would later scratch off the said colors to reveal or create the images like the one above. I need to put the merch right away before I forget them.
The canvas would be a boring sea of pink and orange if I would not fill it with details that is the tricky part of this style of art. You should never leave a space blank fill it if you can and if necessary. The character wearing bunny ears is intentional she has this shopping cart filled with merch and the two other characters behind her are random and were made spontaneously. At first the one in front is supposed to be playing but did not help the story so I gave him this sleeping bag which is a merch to sell. To further that story I added an assistant behind him helping carry other merch. I guess that could help me further in building their world.
A few minutes later the left half of my canvas is starting to look busy with details. That is the plan. I added some balloons although the seller is not shown then I need some shoppers who love to eat here I gave them some candied fruits and popsicles. The space is still looking bland so I added the cat and the squirrel and a daughter of the bunny character.
After a few more minutes or maybe hours I was able to fill all. The background far end shows the houses of the forest folks which I already had shown in previous contest and in front are kids having fun next I made the other store selling drums beside it is the main store that sells rockets. I finished the small stall by adding a roof, walls and some more merch. The last part is on the foreground, I made a table filled with trumpets and other merry making merch and to make it interesting added a curious creature checking the merch. Those little things make me happy when I create. This is the finished look already but if you scroll up the official entry I added a layer to give some light effects. To keep it interesting.
I hope you enjoyed reading.
