Hey thank you so much @nelinoeva, I really appreciate it and it's great to be back to be able to post in this wonderful community- always one of my favourites!
You are the only other person that I know that has a P950- apart from the YT reviews and tutorials...so I would love to hear about your experiences with it so far as nine haven't been these best.
I had to send it back twice for repairs under warranty- full lens rebuilds and still dodgy now- actually worse...

BUT BRILLIANT CAMERA- WHEN IT WORKS...

Oh dear, you had really lot of troubles with the camera.
So far I am happy with mine as I read the reviews before I decided to buy. Then I joined a group in FB -Nikon Coolpix P900 P950 P1000 P1100 Group. There I saw what photos were posted and I was sure this camera will be OK for birding. I know that there are features that are worse compared to the DSRL, but knowing that beforehand saved me any disappointment. I like the silent shutter and the superzoom. Still can't manage sharp photos of flying birds. This seems to be more difficult.

Yeah I did the same- read and watched heaps of reviews, watched comparison videos between the 950 and other similar cameras, and decided to buy it because I was so impressed with it, And still am- when it works properly.....

I LOVE the superzoom and have gotten some stunning shots with it, but more than anything, mine has problems with closeups- when I'm not too far away either. It just won't focus on automatic, but when I try to shoot in manual, it does this weird jump back, from the original framing...

Anyway, I will still persevere with it, because I do get great shots from it, it's just frustrating that it's so hit and miss- literally, spot on for one shot and then the next- exactly the same shot-distance, settings, everything but no luck.

I will check out the FB group too, thanks for mentioning it.

I was struggling with the macro shots too, but I don't know if this is me who cannot cope with. I fiddled with the settings and maybe that was my problem.
Oh, I love the moon photos. Really impressed by the camera considering that I have a telescope (didn't use it for a long time).

Yes, I saw ppl on YT talking about the amazing macro ability, but then as I was having sooo much trouble- even fiddling with the settings, I spoke to a camera expert in the shop where I bought it and he said that its not a "true" macro camera....very disappointed I am with that as I was really looking forward to finally being able to get macro shots of insects...

My best friend is a 30 yr professional photographer and even she says that it's a lemon....

Well, that is disappointing.
I managed this shot, but the bug was big for a start. 😀

Yes, I can only get big "macro" shots too.
That is a great shot though!
