I get your point, although both don't come off to me as a package deal. The thing is, these sad events occur and will ever remain in your mind somewhere and certainly every once a while your mind will be cast back to them which implies you haven't forgotten(at least, we understand the dictionary meaning of forgetting). However, you could recall them and feel indifferent just because you've forgiven.
