LOH Contest #268: Christmas at the Bakery and Cat Decorating [ENG/ESP]
Greetings to everyone in the Ladies of Hive community. Today I'm joining in to participate in the LOH #268 contest. I'll leave the link at the end of this post for anyone who wants to participate. With that said, let's begin.

Some jobs are essential during the holidays. Have you ever had to work during the holidays? If not, have you ever done anything for someone who has?
Yes, I have a job in mind where I had to be/work right in the middle of the holidays. I remember my first job; it was at a bakery owned by people who were used to working a lot (practically every day and at all hours), and of course, it wasn't unusual to expect that those peak days, December 24th and 31st, would be just as busy as any other day. Even a little busier, because people always go out that day to buy last-minute holiday items, and you end up being a lifesaver. At that time, I was about 17 years old, so I didn't understand much about labor laws or obligations (starting with the fact that, being underage, they shouldn't have hired me). However, they promised to pay me well for overtime and give me a special bonus for it.
Anyway, I don't remember much that happened during those days, but I do remember that we were packed with customers. Since it was a bakery, people came for the famous Venezuelan ham breads. They also ordered pork legs to be baked in the bakery's oven, and they bought Christmas cakes, panettone, soft drinks, bread, and snacks for the holidays. I got home late those days, but I managed to bring home at least a little money and buy some things to spend Christmas with my family. The thing is, they never paid me the corresponding wages (or at least the amount they had promised), and that was disappointing. Now, at my age, I think I would think twice before agreeing to work those holiday days, especially for so little money. Time is precious.
Algunos trabajos son esenciales durante las vacaciones. ¿Alguna vez has tenido que trabajar durante las vacaciones? Si no es así, ¿alguna vez has hecho algo por alguien que sí lo ha hecho?
Sí, tengo un trabajo en mente en dónde me tocó estar/trabajar en plenas festividades. Recuerdo mi primer trabajo, fue en una panadería de unos dueños quiénes acostumbraban trabajar bastante (prácticamente todos los días y a todas horas) y por supuesto no era raro esperar que esos dias picos, del 24 y 31 de diciembre, se trabajara igual que cualquier otro día. Incluso un poco más, por aquello de que la gente siempre sale ese día a comprar lo último para las fiestas y uno termina siendo salvavidas. Para aquel momento yo tenía unos 17 años así que no entendía mucho sobre deberes/leyes sobre el trabajador (comenzando por el hecho de que al ser menor de edad, no debieron aceptarme), sin embargo, prometieron pagar bien las horas extras y recibir alguna bonificación especial por eso.
Total que no recuerdo mucho que sucedió en esos días, pero lo que sí recuerdo es que estuvimos full de clientes. Al ser panadería, la gente venía por los famosos panes de jamón venezolanos, también mandaban a hacer los perniles en el horno de la panadería, compraban tortas navideñas, panettone, refrescos, pan y bocadillos para la fiestas. Esos días llegue tarde a casa, pero me pude venir con al menos un poco de dinero y comprar algunas cosas para pasar la navidad con mi familia. Lo que sí, es que nunca me dieron los pagos correspondientes (o al menos la cantidad que habían prometido) y eso fue decepcionante. Ahora mismo, con la edad que tengo, creo que lo pensaría dos veces antes de aceptar trabajar esos días de festividades y menos por tan poco dinero. El tiempo es valioso.

Yes, I did a little decorating. This year I only put up the tree and decorated it with some ornaments I had from last year that we bought along with the tree. My lights burned out, and I don't have the money to invest in new Christmas decorations. This is the first family tree my husband and I have, so we're taking good care of it. Oh, and Pepito, my cat, is also getting to know it, since this is his first Christmas with us.

Sí, decore un poco. Este año solo coloque el arbolito y lo decore con algunos adornos que tenía del año pasado que se compraron junto al arbolito. Se me quemaron las luces y no tengo para invertir en cosas de Navidad. Este es el primer arbolito familiar que tenemos mi esposo y yo, así que lo cuidamos mucho. Ah y también Pepito, mi gato, lo está conociendo ya que esta es su primera Navidad con nosotros.
